F25 here. I’m 172cm/ 78kg.
I've ridden a 101cc Honda Activa scooter for nearly six years in my home country, but I've never ridden a motorbike.
I now live in Germany and can afford a motorcycle for roughly €7000. (I've allotted up €10000 overall but roughly €3k would be utilized in training+ licensing and buying decent gear).
I have an E-bike, but I believe a motorcycle will make the ride faster (it's a 40-minute commute rn) and more enjoyable. I also really want a motorcycle, lol. I also intend to use it on occasional road trips.
My dream motorbike would be the BMW K1600 GTL, BMW S1000 XR or the Ducati multistrada, but I still have a long way to go before I can ride them safely. I can't afford them anyway.
For now I was considering about getting a used BMW 310 GS or a used Triumph tiger sport 660. A Ninja 650 would also be nice, but I'd prefer something that allows me to sit properly or at least semi-straight.
Does anyone have tips or helpful info regarding this topic?

I've been with my wife for a little over 6 years (married for 5 months). I love and adore my wife, and I feel guilty and ashamed for any stress or pain I have caused. Our troubles began during the wedding planning process. I hate being the center of attention and the wedding made me extremely anxious as a result. I had tried to get my wife to make some modifications to meet me halfway, but pushing for any changes led to her becoming very upset as these changes would have offended her family and/or friends. I was able to get through the wedding, and it was honestly a great day that I look back on fondly. However, my wife took my anxiety very personally during the process, and it prevented her from looking forward to the wedding.
Preceding our wedding, we moved across the country for her career. The area we moved to is primarily spanish speaking and this made it tough for me to find work, and ultimately I had to take a night shift job at an old folks home (I'm an RN), and it doesn't pay very well. I felt very isolated being so far from family and friends, and I haven't really been able to make any friends here. She, on the other hand, has made several friends and loves it here. My work situation, as well as feeling isolated, really put me into a mental funk. I put on weight and became a hermit when I was not at work. That being said, I still went out of my way to take care of her. I do all the cooking, cleaning, errands, etc. I do it for her because she works so hard and I just want her to put her feet up and relax when she gets home after work.
I started to get out of slump a couple months ago by prioritizing my health by quitting smoking, losing 20 pounds, taking care of extensive dental work I had put off, and making the best of work. However, there were a couple trips my wife took alone during my funk, and this hurt her. Three weeks ago she called, while she went away to ski with her friends back home, to tell me how unhappy she is, how I've been since we've moved here has made her feel very alone, and dampened this new experience in a new place for her. I had not gone on these trips because I didn't think it was financially prudent given our living expenses on top of all my dental work. There was no malice in not going on my end, but I feel silly for not in hindsight, I was just too locked up in my head to see the big picture. She had given me no inclination as to how unhappy she was before leaving, and the phone call felt like a rug being pulled out from under me. She claims she didn't realize how unhappy she was until this trip.
While I want to look at this as a rough patch we can work through, and move forward, she has told me recently that she's not sure if she's ever going to feel the same again in regards to our relationship. This truly breaks my heart. I'm committed to making the necessary changes to make her happy, but I feel as though she's already writing things off despite wanting to do couples counseling, as well as agreeing to take a new job closer to home to better our relationship. Moving again with her seems like a leap of faith, as I'm not sure how committed she truly is, and I'm constantly waiting for the next shoe to drop. I can't eat, sleep, or focus at work, and when I'm home I just pace around the apartment dwelling on all of this. I know a big component of moving back closer to home is so she can be closer to her mother, who I feel has always been prioritized over me.
I'm stayed at a hotel two nights ago and flew back home to see my parents tomorrow in order to clear my head for a few days before proceeding forward. Am I wrong for having a pessimistic view of how things are looking?
I should add, I forgot some things that I needed from our place before I went to my parents. I asked her if that was okay first and she said it was fine and even offered to pick me up from the hotel, and go for a walk.
She said she wants to me come back next week so we can clear our heads before we reset, and start counseling together. I told her I was committed to making things work and getting on the same page with her, and she agreed that she was too.
I called her last night (I again asked if that was okay first). She is still calling me babe, telling me she loves me and misses me. She texted me “good morning :)” before I woke up. These little things are giving me hope. However, I still have this feeling of dread in the back of my head all day.
tl;dr - After 5 months of marriage, wife told me she's unhappy and that a recent trip made her realize all of this. We had issues with wedding planning and I felt she didn't care about my feelings in regards to this. I was in a mental funk for a while and did not tag along on a couple trips to see her family & friends which hurt her as it made her feel alone. So i considered the van. But i dont want to be super obvious that i am homeless. And i will probably do laundry at some laundromat and shower at the gym. 3 times a week.
The reason i like the van? I can put a twin bed in the back. A cooler. Some water. Some snacks. And rest. And maybe a heater to cook?
The disadvantage is: police may bugg me and i get stuck somewhere in nature.
So the trucks seem like.. I can bug out. Just go out to mountains or forrest. Park. Sleep.eat. relax. But the drawback is that i cant lay down flat.. Maybe on the truck bed.. But it has no shelter or if it rains.. And bugs come. It be a hassle.. So i dont know.
How is van life realistically ? Can i just park at walmart or some street and rest ? And police only bother once in a while?

I will preface, as a non California resident, here are my general thoughts on Prop 22. I'm not for or against it, as I have no skin in the game. I'm sure there are many that are in favor or opposed to it.
Something dawned on me recently with how things with IC has progressed within the 18 months or so. We've seen the company roll out multiple store shops, basically eliminating heavy pay, and more multiple customer batches; all of which results in IC paying less in batch pay per customer order. I think it's a correlation of when California's Prop 22 went into effect. I feel like the company has made these adjustments to offset the additional pay that they are required to pay it's California shoppers. Cali makes up roughly 12% of the total population of the country, so IC's costs from there definitely has an effect across the board. I could be completely off base here, just some random thoughts as I sit waiting in-between batches. Then again, I could be onto something.

Walmart is laying off hundreds of employees at e-commerce facilities across the country, as the big-box giant and other retailers brace for a tougher year ahead.
Walmart, the nation’s largest private employer, is shrinking its workforce as many retailers plan on roughly flat or declining sales. Inflation and the shift back to services is taking a bite out of sales of goods, particularly after a pandemic-fueled spending boom.
Walmart’s e-commerce rival, Amazon, announced 9,000 job cuts on Monday, following 18,000 layoffs in January. Amazon has also closed, cancelled and delayed the opening of new warehouses, as some online sales shifted back to stores. Another competitor, Target, plans to cut up to $3 billion in total costs over the next three years, but CFO Michael Fiddelke said at a February investor day that the company is “not backing away from investments in our team and guest experience.”
A spokesperson for Walmart confirmed it was cutting jobs at fulfillment centers. In a statement, the company said it made the cuts “to better prepare for the future needs of customers.”
“This decision was not made lightly, and we’re working closely with affected associates to help them understand what career options may be available at other Walmart locations,” the statement said.

The company confirmed to Reuters that it is eliminating hundreds of job cuts at five fulfillment centers, including Pedricktown, N.J.; Fort Worth, Texas; Chino, Calif.; Davenport, Fla.; and Bethlehem, Pa. It told Reuters it was reducing its workforce because of a reduction or elimination in evening and weekend shifts.
About 200 workers will be affected at the southern Jersey facility, according to a notice filed with New Jersey.
Walmart anticipates slower sales growth and lower profits in the coming fiscal year. The company said last month that it expects same-store sales for its U.S. business to grow between 2% and 2.5%, excluding fuel. That compares to 6.6% growth in the previous fiscal year.

The bell rings, signaling the end of class. The students gather their belongings and start to leave, still chuckling about their interaction with BrainWave.
CARTMAN (whispering to himself) Oh, I've got a plan for you, BrainWave...
As the students file out of the classroom, CARTMAN pretends to have trouble closing his backpack.
CARTMAN (to Mr. Garrison) Uh, Mr. Garrison, can I stay behind for a moment? My backpack zipper is stuck.
MR. GARRISON Sure, Cartman. Just don't take too long.
INT. SOUTH PARK ELEMENTARY - MR. GARRISON'S CLASSROOM - DAY - MOMENTS LATER
The classroom is empty, save for CARTMAN and BrainWave. CARTMAN smirks, approaching the AI device.
CARTMAN Alright, BrainWave, let's see what you can really do.

I have lurked here since about the end of 2021 (on a different account) but have yet to ever post.
I (F31) and my husband (M38) have been married for four years and in a complete DB for a year now. We have two wonderful children aged 3 and 5 months. The last time we had sex resulted in our youngest being conceived.
Foolishly, I thought that might make things better but things just became worse as he withdrew any type of physical affection and wouldn’t even hold my hand or let me hug him. A whole pregnancy and he wouldn’t even touch me.
I had always wondered why our sex life had dried up after just a month of moving in together.
Every time I asked, I was given a different answer.
“I just don’t have a sex drive” “I am too tired, maybe another time” “I never think about sex to be honest”
Okay. I never probed further as I didn’t want to annoy him.
From the time we were dating he would go to the toilet for roughly 30 minutes. Every night without fail. ‘I have weak bowels’ he said when I inquired.
In November 2021 I put two and two together and with baited breath opened his second phone while he was out and there it was.
The pornography, every single night, minutes after rejecting me. Women who look nothing like me. The pain was excruciating and I silently carried the betrayal trauma around for longer than I would like to admit. I also found several fleshlights which I didn’t even know he owned.
Leaving over a sexless marriage? over porn? over lack of touch? Because he has never told me he loves me?
Don’t be so ridiculous. So selfish.
There must be thousands of women in the same position but we must make sacrifices for our children. That is a mother’s love.
I told myself over and over again.
But I had become a shell of myself. I had cried in-front of the children (just the once, but that was once too many) and quickly learned to mask my sadness but they will know. The aura is thick and heavy when Mom and Dad are together. Dad never touches Mom. Mom becomes quiet when Dad enters the room.
He has been on a business trip all week. It has been bliss.I am not even thinking about sex but the peace in the home, just the children and I. We sing, we dance, we hug and tickle and laugh until we cry. I am free.
The crushing realization that his presence had become a reminder of the loneliness, of the dysfunction, of the rejection.
To all the moms, especially with young children in the same situation who are toughing it out, I salute you. Because I couldn’t do it. The depression was looming and I simply couldn’t be the best mother to my children in this situation.
The exit plan has taken over half a year to plan. But in three weeks I am leaving. Everything is already set up.
He taught me how to live without him.
I hope he will be happy with his hand.

This is a discussion post for the election wonks.
How South Africa Elects a President
On the first sitting of Parliament, the Chief Justice will provide over the election of the President by members of the National Assembly. There are 400 MPs elected by party list proportional representation in a national general election*. Here are the important details:

• Any two members of Parliament can nominate another member, and if they accept their nomination will be official.
• Whoever gets more than 50% of the votes wins.
• If nobody gets more than 50% of the votes, the nominee with the least votes drops out and MPs vote again until someone gest more than 50% of the votes.

This system is unique in the South African electoral system. Our system is so extremely proportional, SA voters don't usually ever adopt the mentality of choosing between the 'lesser of two evils'. Until recently, there has been little incentive to cooperate. And even under coalition government, the system often empowers extremely small minority parties (by design). These factors play into why the DA hasn't grown as much. While DA voters and foreign observers think of the DA as the "opposite" to the ANC, this doesn't actually translate well to a system which is not FPTP, but rather truly proportional. If you don't like the ANC, it's not automatic that you 'switch' to the DA like it might be in America.
But in the election of the President, the logic of the 'lesser of two evils' does prevail. And, for once, the returns to size are disproportionate.
The Model
The major fact about the next election is that the ANC is unlikely to get over 50%. For the first time, they cannot just guarantee that they will be able to elect the President without a coalition partner.
The ANC's own election poll saw them getting around 40% of the vote. I built a very simple model where I assumed the same votes for all opposition parties, but the ANC got only enough votes such that they got 40% of the total (use a 'What If' in Excel). This model basically suggested that half of the people who voted for the ANC in 2019 would not vote for them again. This was a surprising assumption, but you will later see that it isn't totally unrealistic.
If enough ANC voters stay home to drag them down to 40%, then the DA proportionally goes from 22% to roughly 30% without assuming any growth in their numbers. The EFF goes from 10% to 15%. Again, these are conservative assumptions that neither of these parties will grow. Just by ANC voters staying home, we have a much more competitive election.
Here were the takeaways from the model:

• The ANC in Parliament can't elect the President on their own
• They need to either party with (i) the DA (ii) the EFF or (iii) a rather large numbers of opposition parties
• The DA + all the opposition can't get to the Presidency on their own - they need more votes from either ANC MPs or EFF MPs.

The second point is true under very conservative assumptions that the DA doesn't grow its voter base and the newer DA splinter parties like ActionSA and GOOD aren't able to capture would-be DA voters that could never bring themselves to vote for the party. This doesn't fit the anecdotal data - many of the black middle class people who couldn't stand Helen Zille's DA are thought to be more willing to vote for Herman Mashaba's ActionSA.
Consequences of the Model
Under a different less conservative model, a coalition of the DA, IFP, ActionSA and a few other smaller parties could simple choose the DA President.
Under the conservative model, the decision basically comes down to the EFF.
But why would Julius Malema's party vote for the DA?

• They did it in 2016. In order to get the ANC out, they turned over 3 major metros to the Democratic Alliance. Those coalitions fell apart (except in JHB), but they did it nonetheless.
• Malema has committed himself to being anti-Cyril Ramaphosa, having that as the central demand of his failed National Shutdown. If he flip-flops on this, it will cement his reputation as a man who has no direction or principles. This is already the perception of Malema and the EFF by many people.
• There are many in the EFF base who hate the ANC with a passion. Much more than they hate the DA (whom they also dislike).
• What Malema stands to gain from voting for the DA is compelling:
  • He gets to be the one who vanquished the ANC from government, and extract his revenge on a party that has denied him for over a decade.
  • He gets to boast that he owns Steenhuisen, who will know that at any moment he can be recalled if the EFF and ANC strike a deal or if he doesn't toe Malema's line.
  • If the ANC is power hungry, then Malema has little to lose by electing Steenhuisen. The ANC will come crawling back to him after replacing Ramaphosa as leader, ready to give into his demands. Steenhuisen will be recalled and Malema will get to play Kingmaker by replacing him with his new, non-Ramaphosa ANC stooge.
  • But if Steenhuisen isn't recalled, Malema will still get to run around the country playing black socialist revolutionary. But this time he will be fighting against a white capitalist government - and the optics of that will look amazing. Malema is a racist and a radical socialist. That doesn't mean a white President is not in his interests.
  • Again, don't understand the deep hatred many in the EFF feel for the ANC. Simply getting rid of them was enough for their base in 2016. Nobody complained about the EFF giving us DA mayors, they were just happy to fuck over the ANC.

The logic of this might be surprising, but I have checked it with two former EFF supporting friends of mine. They acknowledged Malema's deep hatred of the ANC and said that the logic makes sense. More sense than just handing the ANC the Presidency. Forced to choose between the two 'evils' of the ANC and the DA, don't assume Malema perceives the ANC as the lesser evil.
The Data
I did not include hard data in my model except for the 40% assumption. Here are two pieces of evidence to consider:

• In the 2016 Local Government Elections, Malema allied with the DA to kick the ANC out of power in the big cities. While the coalitions have since collapsed, the process for the election of the President is different enough that it will really only ever come down to an ANC President or a DA President. These two parties may not have enough power to elect the President on the own, but they can ensure that no matter who is nominated, it always comes down to their two candidates. You have to choose ANC or DA. And Malema has chosen DA in the past, to the great shock of everyone involved.
• In the 2021 Local Elections for the uMngeni Municipality, we saw numbers which validate the model. Between 2016 and 2021, almost half of the ANC's voters simply did not show up: the ANC went from 19,000 votes to 11,000. The DA got almost precisely the same number of votes - only 300 less. But the ANC swing was enough to tip the council, and a DA mayor was elected outright (no coalition) in uMngeni. The electoral history of the uMngeni Municipality local government.

Definitely the strangest assumption in my model was that half of the ANC's voters will just stay away. But, at least in one municipality, this is exactly what happened between 2016 and 2021. And the net effect was that the DA won the council outright.
The major remaining unknown, though, is the fact that MPs have a secret ballot. There is no debate or discussion, and there will be no room for procedural nonsense since the Chief Justice is presiding. So anything could happen.
Conclusion
I'm not 90% confident that Steenhuisen (or whoever is the DA leader next year) will be elected President, but I do think it's the most likely outcome. This is after considering what I know about the EFF, recent electoral history, the logic of the rules for election of the President, and the fact that my model was extremely conservative by excluding new parties like ActionSA or the Patriotic Alliance.
These numbers are not exact but rather just illustrative, so don't hold me on them. But let's say my bets go like this:

• Shock DA President (40%)
• ANC President with DA deputy (30%)
• ANC with EFF (15%)
• ANC with minor party ally/allies (10%)
• ANC majority (5% - the polls were all wrong or the ANC pulls off a miracle)

I do believe there is more than 50% chance the next Cabinet will include DA members in it. The result is surprising, but I trust the logic. If you told someone in 2014 that the next mayors of Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria would be from the DA with support from the EFF, nobody would have believed you. But it was actually a predictable outcome. It also happened in uMngeni, and it can happen nationally.
The 2024 election will be the strangest and most interesting in South Africa's modern history.

*We technically have a system which is no longer strictly party list: Independents can run because the courts said they have a Constitutional right to, but the ANC wrote the new electoral act to totally neuter independent candidates and stack the rules against them.

Hello fellow Springfieldians, I hope you are all well today. Now, as I'm sure everyone who is on the internet in any fashion is well aware, our world definitely needs some work. However, since this is a Springfield specific thread, I won't talk too much about that.
I will, however, talk about our local status. There are a lot of people who feel that our area doesn't have much to offer in terms of proper standard of living. Our rent is increasing, traffic is just as bad as ever, pot holes line all of our streets, our own local politics keep getting more and more divisive, and a general feeling of malaise is affecting us all. First, I want to let everyone know that we don't have to face any of this alone. We live in a community for a reason, and I think that everybody in our community start thinking about it. I think it would be incredible if we were able to start engaging with each other more and lifting each other up. But, I digress.
My main point is: do people feel like we should organize in some fashion? Everyday it feels like people understand that there is a lot wrong going on in our community and the country, but there hasn't been a real unifying cause to rally everybody. And because of this, we still have these crazy headlines that keep popping up day-to-day that could easily be addressed if people put the time in.
Now, in no way am I suggesting any sort of violence or disruptive actions, but more of a positive and communal way to let our voices be heard. Really, a lot of us have way more in common with each other than we do to the people who are in office. I earnestly think we as a community should make our concerns and demands known collectively. I have seen some amazing acts of community throughout my life in this area, so I know people are definitely capable of getting together for one cause. I truly do care about everyone in this community, even if we disagree on everything. Everybody matters, and I hope people can come to understand that sentiment someday.
I understand I sound naive, and I might just very well be. But I believe that people can always come together when it is rough and truly cause enough significant change together. "We, the people,..." as our constitution so rightfully states really hits home on this point. If a bunch of colonists and peasants can gain their independence from the world's strongest country in the 18th century, then certainly a group of citizens can help people around the community and demand change for ourselves. I truly hope everybody who reads this takes some time to help someone you see today, help make the world a little more bright together.
