2023.03.23 20:54 rtischer8277 RFC7217 Implementation problems and successes discussion
lets any programmer create his own SLAAC
IPv6 addresses. There is no need for these addresses to be obtained from the ISP
or ever be renumbered
. After checking for duplicates
, they can become permanent
. ISPs are obligated by the standard to route UDP and TCP packets based in the first 64 bits, the network id, of these GUA
addresses, to any target machine. Reachability
: This much is true. ISPs do route these addresses to anywhere. They do not, however, send them on to the destination once received, at least for residential ISP services. This is called the residential ISP IPv6 reachability issue
. IPv4 packets, on the other hand, are both routable and reachable today, disregarding for the sake of discussion, NAT
I have implemented and tested a full Windows implementation of this RFC and can back up my assertions with code and test results. I expect to be discussing these results with others in this community with similar experience. Secret key
: is one of the ingredients in an RFC7217 address. It can't be emphasized enough the importance of the question of who owns this key. Just take the crypto exchange debacle which has been unfolding since Mt. Gox
. What was the problem? Users let their private keys be copied into central servers. The copying process meant they lost ownership. Likewise, OS implementations retain private keys "on the users behalf", but take them none the less, just like crypto exchanges, away from the user. RFC7217 solves that issue because neither the OS, exchange server nor ISP can take the secret private key away from its creator owner. Impl
: this reddit community is for programmers, but scripters
are of course welcome. Podcasts and IPv6 discussions make no distinction between the two. However, these communities and their experiences AFAIAC are distinct, where programmers have gotten the short end of the information stick. Hence, this community opportunity. Conclusion
: I want for this functionality to succeed. I think IPv6 success is dependent on owning your own secret keys and thus implementations built around that invariant. My framework is currently hobbled by the ISP IPv6 reachability issue
, and is forcing it to remain on IPv4. That is ok for now, but I eventually want to rise up against the ISPs and force them to change. I would like to develop a community of like-minded to eventually consider that option.

| || | submitted by Jefferybeene to WatchesCirclejerk [link] [comments]
After seeing the 'Perfect Box' post one too many times I had enough, so here we go.
PIC 1 Top Row, L to R Hamilton Khaki King champagne dial
- Bought because I liked it and wanted a Hamilton not in a movie. Leather strap was too short so I ordered something off Amazon that’s not here yet because of whatever, so I threw it on a strap I had lying around. Lume sucks but I like the day/date thing.
- Bought it and wife (how many watches do you NEED?) wasn’t happy so I said I’d give it to her and get it back when I lost 20 pounds. Took two years but that happened, threw it on a Strapcode oyster band. Wear it a lot because the lume is sweet.
Seiko Field SK9090lij9089080ijlkjl
- Looked cool online. It’s decent but I just don’t wear it as much, honestly probably less than a half dozen times. Got it cheap online so not worried about MY INVESTMENT.
- Whatever it’s a Seiko Field watch, which I honestly wear a ton. Decent lume, too. Ok, I looked it up, SNZG15 or something like that.
Orient Bambino Version Whatever
- Beat to hell and still going. No clue when I bought it, but at least ten years ago. Serviced never. Wore it for years and still break it out every now and then. Threw on the leather strap because the bracelet was falling apart and nasty. Probably should throw the bracelet in one of those pans with the stuff they use to clean engine parts.
Bottom Row, L to R Swatch Skeleton
- It’s an inexpensive dress watch that I wear on very rare occasions. Band’s kinda iffy.
Swatch New Gentrification or something
- Hey it’s a Swatch, I’ve always loved Swatches. Had some back in the 80’s. And cool it’s a skeleton. Is it cheap? It is! BUY NOW. Fact: telling time on this is a pain in the ass. Rarely wear this. Still cheaper than a Richard Mille and just about as readable.
Vostok Der Kommisar or Commander or whatever
- Legible. Cheap. Easy to read. 80’s nostalgia. Ticks so loud I can possibly hear it in another state.
G-Shock Orient Kamasu
- It’s yellow. It’s a Vostok. It was cheap. I was drunk and ordered it online. The rubber strap that came with it was epically bad so I put it on this other strap that was lying around. The watch that also made me wonder if the crown would fall off when I went to set it.
- Honestly one of the watches I’ve worn the most. Put it on the SKX’s rubber strap because I wondered how it’d look and haven’t bothered to put back the bracelet. Pretty sure the Seiko Police are en route.
- Gift from my wife, a very thick watch. Band clasp is fiddly, but once it’s on wears great. Craptastic lume, tho. Wear it a lot because I like it AND it reminds me of my wife. Oh, and it looks cool in the sunlight.
PIC 2 L to Right-ish Apple Watch 3
- Mostly wear it now when I exercise, which means it hasn’t been charged in months because I’m lazy.
Nautis Cheap-Ass Dive watch
- Gift from my Mom. Still a damn classic and the indiglo thing is perfect at the movies.
Ted Baker watch
- Hoo boy was this a damn mistake. Friend said to try Watch Gang so I did and got this. Heavy as hell and I have no idea why as when the battery needed replaced the insides are filled with plastic and air. Canceled that crap really quickly. What a scam.
Mil-Tec Fleiger watch
- Gift from my wife, and yeah it’s a fashion watch but it’s got a pretty decent face, thin as hell and I’ll never get rid of it. Even if I know she paid way too much vs. what it’s actually worth.
- Another late night, what the hell purchase. Big watch and I’ve only worn it a few times. Think it was under a hundred bucks. And hey, for a few bucks there's some Luftwaffe history for you! Again, alcohol involved.

2023.03.23 19:36 drhman1971 My wife found her lost/stolen ring at a Pawn shop and had to rebuy it. Any recourse?
We live in Illinois. My wife was dining out a restaurant several months ago with some girlfriends and took her wedding ring off to wash her hands in the bathroom. It has some texture and grooves that she didn't want to get soap in. She left it on the shelf by the mirror in the bathroom. It was right before closing and by the time she realized an hour or so later what had happened they were closed. She went back next morning when they opened to see if it was there or if anyone had turned it in and no one had. Presumably another patron or someone from the staff took it and made no "good faith" effort to return it. Also, my wife is a nurse and typically has to remove her ring for work so it's not unusual for her to have to take it off. (Some people feel naked without their ring, but my wife can't wear it at work so it's not unusual for her to remove it).
She filed a police report on it with pictures. They told her not to go to pawn shops or jewelry stores looking for it. They would "handle it".
We attempted to file an insurance claim with our homeowner's insurance, but they said we didn't have a specific rider for it and wouldn't cover it. My wife has been beating herself up over it for months.
We were looking into getting a replacement done but the ring was very unique and we hadn't done so yet as we were having problems finding someone to make a replacement. It was an art deco style with lots of small stones on a riser on each side that went up to a central larger stone. I think I paid around $1800 for it in 2005. The jewelry store that originally made it closed and has been out of business for years.
Today, some 3 months later, my wife was at a pawn shop and they had her ring for sale. She told the pawn shop that she believed it was her lost/stolen ring and that she had filed a police report. She showed the pawn shop pictures of it on her phone. They agreed it was likely her ring, but they would not return it. She asked who brought it in and they refused to tell her. They offered to sell it back to her at a discount. They were asking $1500 but offered to sell it to her for $1200. She was concerned that if she left to get the police involved (which could have taken hours or days) then the ring would be "gone" when she returned. She ended up rebuying it for $1200. I told her she probably should have called the police before rebuying it, but what's done is done.
Is there any recourse for us to get the $1200 back? Or, should we chalk this up to a (very expensive) lesson to be more careful in the future?
Her ring is very distinctive and unique and is clearly not a different similar ring. It's 100% her lost/stolen ring. We have pictures of it going back to 2005 when I bought it.

Hello everyone, I am working on a project and would like to gauge the interest of the general public. Here the situation, hypothetically, the city busses massively expanded routes with some important details.
Busses came every 5 minutes downtown, 10 minutes in more suburban areas, and 15 minutes on the outskirts, guaranteed schedules.
Free bus passes for the first year for all residents and discounts for certain people's after (students, seniors, military, etc).
Security was on board at all times.
Assume busses run 24 hours.
How would you use this information?
Edit: I would also love to hear ideas as to how the city could get the most worth (not revenue) from this bus system expansion View Poll

2023.03.23 18:21 GTripp14 911 Transcript for "The Teddy Bear Abduction"
Transcript of Oakland Grove Police Department calls received on 3/12/2023 regarding “The Teddy Bear Abduction” 5:23 PM: A young girl identifying herself as Emily Brown contacted the 911 operator, Jennifer Morton, to report being abducted by a man in a teddy bear costume. This transcript has been made available due to the poor audio quality of the call. The victim speaks in hushed tones and can often be difficult to understand. A recording is available upon request.
911 Operator: 911, what's your emergency?
Caller: Please help me! My name is Emily Brown and a man in a bear costume [Inaudible] from the park on Lover’s Lane. I think he’s going to kill me.
911 Operator: Okay, I’m having trouble hearing you. Can you try to speak up?
Caller: I can’t. He threw me in the back of a van and I don’t want him to hear me. It’s loud back here and [Inaudible] windows are painted black. I tried opening the door, but it was locked.
911: Okay, sweety. Keep whispering. Do you know where he is taking you?
Caller: No, I can’t see out of the windows and there is a metal wall between the back and the cab. It’s completely dark in here. We’ve only been moving for a few minutes. Oh God, Oh God, Oh God… he’s going to kill me.
911 Operator: Okay, we're going to send officers to the area around the park. Can you describe the suspect and the vehicle?
Caller: He's a man wearing a filthy teddy bear costume with a big, creepy smile on his face. It looks like that bear that jumps out and scares you from the video game. I don’t remember the name. [Inaudible] looks like one of those white vans that delivery drivers use. There were no stickers or anything. The windows are all covered with black paint.
911 Operator: Okay, we have a description of the suspect and vehicle, Emily. Can you tell me anything else about him?
Caller: I was just walking in the park to meet a friend. He was standing near a swingset and waved at me when I walked by. I waved back. He looked like he was there for a kid's birthday party or something, but then he started following me and calling out to me. He's got a really deep voice. And he kept saying things like "You're going to be my little bear.”
911 Operator: Alright, we have officers en route. Can you tell me anything else at all, Emily?
Caller: I can hear the sound of other cars passing us. I think we’re on the highway. Am I going to be okay? Please come get me. [Inaudible] just want to go home. I want my mom.
911 Operator: Okay, stay on the line with me. We have officers at the park and others are being directed onto the highway. We'll do everything we can to get you out of there.
Caller: Please hurry! He’s going to kill me. Oh my God, I’m going to die…
911 Operator: Okay Emily, we have officers in the area looking for the suspect's vehicle. We are going to find you. Concentrate on the sound of my voice. Is there anything inside the van with you? Anything that could help us identify it?
Caller: It's really dirty and there are stuffed animals everywhere. I saw them for a second… [inaudible] before he slammed the door. There's a weird smell like something's rotting. The floor is sticky. I think it may be blood.
911 Operator: Okay, we have a description of the van. Just hang in there, Emily. We're doing everything we can to find you.
Teenager: The van is starting to slow down… Oh shit, we’re going to stop soon. I’m going to try and kick the window out.
911 Operator: No! Just stay quiet and be as calm as you can. Please just…
[Audible thumping sounds coming from the caller's line followed by a pounding noise. An inaudible male voice begins to yell in the background. The sound of a door opening is followed by screams and inaudible speech from the caller] 5:35 PM: End call. 5:25 PM: A secondary 911 call, received by Deborah Jenkins, related to the abduction is received. A witness, identifying himself as Matthew Bowman of Oakland Grove, provides an eyewitness account of the abduction of Emily Brown.
Operator: 911, what's your emergency?
Caller: Yes, hello, I just witnessed something… shit. I don’t know, maybe it was a joke. You know how kids do all that weird garbage now for TikTok videos?
Operator: Sir, what is the nature of the emergency?
Caller: Sorry, yeah. I was sitting on a bench at Lover’s Lane Park I saw a man dressed in a damn bear costume grab a young girl and force her into the back of a van.
Operator: Is the van still there, sir?
Caller: No. After the guy slammed the doors, he peeled out of the parking lot like a bat outta Hell. Do you think this is some sort of video prank?
Operator: I don’t know, sir. Did you see what direction the van was headed?
Caller: Yeah, sure. Fella took a left turn onto Fairview Avenue in the direction of the highway. Can’t remember the road number.
Operator: Can you give me a description of the girl and the man in the bear costume?
Caller: The girl looked to be around 15 or 16 years old, with long brown hair and wearing a pink jacket. She was walking alone and the bear guy started hollerin’ at her.
Operator: And the man in the bear costume? Can you describe anything about him?
Caller: The man in the teddy bear costume was tall. Over six feet, looked like. Could be skinny, could be fat. Hard to tell with that buffy damn bear costume. Looked like it hadn't been washed in months. Be patches of dark stains on it. Large smile on the mask. Creepy lookin’ shit. Woulda been in place in one of those haunted houses at a carnival.
Operator: Okay sir, we have units on the way to your location. Can you stay on the line with me and give me any additional information you may have?
Caller: Yes, can do. I didn't see the license plate of the van, but it was a white panel van with windows on the sides. Too far away though to see inside. No stickers or logos or nothin’ on the outside. The man drove off very quickly, so I didn't get a chance to see anything else, really. I'm just really worried about that little girl now. More I talk about it, I don’t think it was any kinda joke at all.
Operator: Understood sir, we'll do everything we can to find her. Can you tell me your name and contact information?
Caller: Yes, my name is Matty Bowman… uh, Matthew. My number’s [Redacted]. Shit… that poor kid. I shoulda tried to help her.
Operator: Thank you, Mr. Bowman. The police will be there shortly to speak with you. Please stay where you are until they arrive.
Caller: Yes, I'll wait here. Please find that little girl. I'm really worried about her. I can’t believe I just watched him take her… 5:29: End Call. The following transcript is a dispatch call made by Officer Joshua Brian to the Oakland Grove Police department on 3/14/2023. A state-wide manhunt beginning on 3/12/203 resulted in the tip leading Officer Brian to the location of an abandoned 1998 Chevrolet Express Van parked in a private timber lot. 11:29 AM: Begin dispatch call.
Officer: "Dispatch, this is Officer Brian. I'm calling in with a possible crime scene."
Dispatcher: "Go ahead, Officer Brian. What's your location and what's the situation?"
Officer: "I'm on a private wooded lot near the intersection of Highway 41 and Beulah Farm Road. I've found an abandoned van parked fifty yards from the road behind a dense woodline. It's filled with what appears to be blood and… stuffed animals. There is a broken Samsung Galaxy on the floor, also covered in what I believe to be blood."
Dispatcher: "Copy that, Officer Brian. Can you confirm if anyone is around or inside the vehicle?"
Officer: "Negative. There's no one in sight. I've checked the immediate area and it's clear. But the amount of blood is substantial, and it looks like there's been a struggle inside. There are footprints on the windows and streaks in the blood. It appears someone was pulled from the rear with force."
Dispatcher: "Copy that. Please remain on the scene and secure the area. We'll send a crime scene unit and detectives your way as soon as possible."
Officer: "Understood, Dispatch. I'm securing the scene now."
Dispatcher: "Understood. Please stay safe and keep us updated on any developments."
Officer: "Copy that, Dispatch. I'll be standing by." 11:35 AM: End Dispatch Call. Crime scene technicians were able to collect DNA samples from four unique individuals. The amount of blood located in the abandoned Chevrolet Express van was determined to be of an amount that subjects from samples #1 to #3 were unlikely to have survived. Sample #1 was determined to match DNA from the toothbrush provided to the Oakland Grove Police Department by the parents of Emily Brown. Samples #2 and #3 were determined to belong to yet unidentified females. These samples are being cross-referenced with missing person cases in various jurisdictions throughout the region. Efforts are ongoing to identify unknown subjects. Sample #4 was determined to belong to a yet unidentified male subject. The source of the DNA is considered a person of interest in the abduction of Emily Brown. Emily Brown or her remains have not been recovered. Investigative efforts are ongoing. Similar abductions attributed to a mysterious individual in animal costumes have been reported in locations throughout the East Coast and southern United States.

(...) it is one of the most recent on the highly competitive segment of the off-road mining truck - a Chinese specialty par excellence - but for all that #SANY has imposed itself in force by the high quality of its models, for their very high profitability and their incredible performance. Off-road mining trucks cut for the most extreme conditions of massive transport on unmaintained tracks and over long distances and which confirm an availability rate which is one of the highest in the segment but also a break-even point of the highest enviable and without relying on unfailing reliability. A success for #SANY which through independent development and under multiple exclusive patents has managed to become one of the best references in the field to the point that its mining trucks are essential in the largest fleets of mining companies as here in video with its 80 tons of payload for an empty weight of 35 tons and active at more than 50 units in a mine in Xinjiang, to the greatest satisfaction of the operator. Ultra robust vehicles, very resistant and enduring in all situations and at low transport costs per ton. Its 80tons has a new generation #WEICHAI engine with high energy efficiency and which makes it one of the most economical in the sector. In any case, the manufacturer has never delivered so many of its various mining trucks, a huge success for top-of-the-range equipment with very solid assets and advantages. Nothing more to demonstrate, they are competitors with solid arguments (...)

Currently doing a casual grind in Sol for Federation ranks and it occurred to me that it might be fun to do this. I haven't decided on a ship and I may wait until I have the Guardian FSD booster.
I don't have a lot of hours in game and haven't done much exploring, any tips would be appreciated, but mostly I'm curious about any must see sights.
