2023.03.23 21:40 FidgetSp9nner A Guide to All the EEL and EEE Classes I've Taken

REPOST WITH UPDATE: I’m posting this again during registration because last time I posted this, it was nowhere near registration time and it may be more useful at this point in the semester.
For all of you early Electrical Engineering majors, this is a guide going over which classes are worth taking, the difficulty levels, and when to take them. I can only go over classes I have taken, and these won’t be in any particular order, aside from required courses first. Hope this helps you to decide which classes to take and when. I’ll also give a 1-10 rating how fun, difficult, and useful each class is.
Required Courses: These are classes that are required.
EEL3000 (Intro to EE) – Dr. Zmuda: Honestly, this is barely even a class. It is quite easy with only one or two actual project you must do. Easily able to be fit into any schedule.
Fun: 6/10 Difficulty: 3/10 Usefulness: 3/10
EEL3111 (Circuits 1) – Dr. Yoon: Among the three weed-out classes, this one is probably the easiest. Most of the concepts are pretty simple, but the amount of work the course requires can be a bit much at times. The backwards classroom thing is annoying but overall not awful.
Fun: 5/10 Difficulty: 5/10 Usefulness: 7/10
EEL3701 (Digital Logic) – Dr. Bobda: I know that this is much more difficult with Dr. Schwartz, but with Dr. Bobda it wasn’t too bad. I definitely would make it the focal point of my semester either way though. Of the weed-out classes, this is probably the most difficult.
Fun: 4/10 Difficulty: 6/10 Usefulness: 7/10
EEL3135 (Signals and Systems) – Dr. Harley: Of the three weed-out classes, this is probably the one that takes the least amount of time. It can probably be fit into most schedules, just make sure not to take this and digital logic at the same time.
Fun: 6/10 Difficulty: 5/10 Usefulness: 6/10
EEL3112 (Circuits 2) – Dr. Asadi: This class is pretty easy, and honestly a bit boring at times. Minimal work and time commitment required, so get it out of the way early if possible.
Fun: 3/10 Difficulty: 4/10 Usefulness: 4/10
EEL3923 (Junior Design) – Dr. Patrick: This class can be as easy or difficult as you make it. If you stay on top of things, it can be pretty easy but it is also very easy to slip out of it and have things snowball. Can probably be fit into most semesters.
Fun: 7/10 Difficulty: 7/10 Usefulness: 9/10
EEL4744 (Microprocessors) – Dr. Schwartz: This was a required class for me still, although I know it isn’t for newer students. This is by far the most difficult class I’ve ever taken, not one to be taken lightly. Enormous time commitment; build your semester around this class. At least its useful.
Fun: 3/10 Difficulty: 10/10 Usefulness: 8/10
EEL4923 (Senior Design) – Dr. Eisenstadt: Similar to junior design, this class is as difficult as you make it. If you choose a hard project, the class will be difficult. But ultimately, it’s up to you. I would recommend making sure you choose the right partner and project to make sure you have a good time in this class. It can be extremely rewarding.
Fun: 7/10 Difficulty: 7/10 Usefulness: 10/10
Mid-Level Courses: These are courses that are stepping stones for the later classes.
EEL3008 (Physics of EE) – Dr. Arnold: This is a relatively easy class that isn’t woo much work either. Not a class to plan around, but one to be added to a medium-difficulty semester. Dr. Arnold is also one of the best professors in the department as well, so that helps this class a lot.
Fun: 7/10 Difficulty: 4/10 Usefulness: 6/10
EEE3308 (Electronics 1) – Dr. Fox: Dr. Fox isn’t still at the school, but the new professors are pretty good from what I hear. This is genuinely one of the most important classes I’ve ever taken, I highly recommend this class to every EE major. You’ll learn so many important concept and become a better engineer. This class may be moderately difficult, but if you commit some time to learn stuff early instead of last minute, it isn’t too bad.
Fun: 7/10 Difficulty: 7/10 Usefulness: 10/10
EEL3211 (Electric Energy) – Prof. Rambo: This class was moderately difficult, and I definitely recommend taking this class over the summer if possible. The overall workload isn’t too high but the individual assignments can be brutal.
Fun: 4/10 Difficulty: 6/10 Usefulness: 4/10
EEL3472 (Electromagnetics 1) – Dr. Rakov: This class was one of my favorites, and Dr. Rakov is one of the best professors as well. Its very math-heavy though, so be sure to review math before this class. Overall, this class is too difficult.
Fun: 8/10 Difficulty: 4/10 Usefulness: 7/10
EEE3396 (Solid State Devices) – Dr. Guo: Surprisingly, this was one of the more difficult classes I’ve taken. Maybe it’s just me but the concepts were difficult to understand and the homeworks were quite difficult. It isn’t the worst, but don’t underestimate this class and get behind.
Fun: 3/10 Difficulty: 7/10 Usefulness: 5/10
Electives: Classes I’ve taken because they git my interests.
EEL4598 (Computer Communications) – Dr. McNair: I’m not very interested in computer stuff, so this class was kind of boring for me. It’s pretty easy, and the final project isn’t awful. Overall, not a lot to say about this class.
Fun: 3/10 Difficulty: 3/10 Usefulness: 3/10
EEL4242 (Power Electronics) – Dr. Wang: A surprise hit of mine. One of the most interesting classes I’ve taken and surprisingly useful. Not a ton of work and the exams are relatively easy. I don’t know if this class still has the lab, but the lab was barely a factor to be honest.
Fun: 8/10 Difficulty: 4/10 Usefulness: 9/10
EEL4251 (Power Systems Analysis): Dr. Bretas: One of the big let downs for me. This class is probably not what you expect it is. It is very math-heavy and high-level concepts, as where I was expecting stuff about power grids in general. Also not the easiest class.
Fun: 2/10 Difficulty: 6/10 Usefulness: 5/10
EEE4306 (Electronics 2) – Dr. Fox: Again, Dr. Fox isn’t teaching the class anymore, but this class is a natural extension of electronics one and is vital if you want to do analog design. It can be difficult at times, but overall not the most difficult class.
Fun: 7/10 Difficulty: 7/10 Usefulness: 9/10
EEL4412 (Applied Magnetism) – Dr. Arnold: If you’re into magnetics and such, you’ll probably love this class. Dr. Arnold is very charismatic and drives the class in a positive direction. Not too difficult either, although the homeworks can be more difficult than you’d think at times.
Fun: 8/10 Difficulty: 6/10 Usefulness: 4/10
EEL4446 (Lasers) – Dr. Zmuda: In contrast to Dr. Zmuda’s other classes, the content of this class is much more advanced than I was expecting. It covers many topics that I wasn’t expecting, and many you may not have experience in. It’s an interesting class but the difficulty may not be worth it for you.
Fun: 5/10 Difficulty: 7/10 Usefulness: 4/10
EEL4473 (Electromagnetics 2) – Dr. Zmuda: Probably the easiest of the electives I’ve taken. Dr. Zmuda is a very relaxed professor and this course is overall pretty laid-back, but very useful for an electromagnetics person to take.
Fun: 7/10 Difficulty: 4/10 Usefulness: 7/10
EEL4495 (Lightning) – Dr. Rakov: I saw this class when I was a freshman and knew I had to take it someday. Having taken it, I can say it was everything I wanted it to be. A decent amount of math involved, but it isn’t too bad if you practice it. Dr. Rakov loves teaching this class and it shows in how enjoyable the lectures are.
Fun: 9/10 Difficulty: 4/10 Usefulness: 6/10
Again, I can only cover the classes that I took. Obviously, I am down an electromagnetics path and not too big of a fan of digital stuff, but hopefully this can be useful to my fellow EE majors. Best of luck in the upcoming semesters.

2023.03.23 21:28 LongJonSiIver Fairly Oddparents Reboot

For over 20 years, audiences watched the adventures of a boy named Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda. Fast paced and funny, The Fairly OddParents asked the question, “What if a kid had an unlimited number of wishes at his disposal?” and answered that question with, “He’d get into trouble, constantly.”
Now who would we get if the same fairy godparents took a new kid under their wing? A kid whose last name isn’t Turner? More hijinx and comedy, of course!
You might be wondering, why make yet another Fairly OddParents? Aren’t a series of shorts, 10 seasons, a live-action series and 3 live-action films enough? Well, my friend, the answer is no. Absolutely not. You can never have too much magic!
An 11-minute comedy just like its predecessor, the new Fairly OddParents is going to retain the retro, absurdist, irreverent sitcom feel the original had, with some added poignancy, serialization, and a tighter focus on character. Gags will still abound but will also have a bit more of an emotional core.
Timmy’s problems were external: evil babysitter and checked-out parents. Hazel’s challenges are more internal: life changes and becoming more comfortable in her identity. Teaming up with Cosmo and Wanda will give Hazel an opportunity to stand out and become the big, bold, hero she longs to be! And it’ll all begins… with a wish.
Hazel’s story and wishes will go further into what makes her tick, connecting to audiences with both humor and heart. Hazel’s journey will be one of self-acceptance and confidence. She starts the beginning of the series daunted by her new circumstances, but thanks to Cosmo and Wanda’s magical guardianship, and the new experiences and adventures she goes on via her wishes, she soon learns to put herself out there and just live life.
For Cosmo and Wanda, it’s about finding a new groove. They’re coming out of retirement and have decided to take on a monumental task in godparenting again! But why? In short, because they love it.
Godparenting is their calling, and they’re good at it. (At least Cosmo thinks so – though that ain’t saying much!) But the world is different, and kids today are more self-aware than ever before. They’re encouraged to vocalize their emotions, inspire, create change, and question tradition.
Because of this, fairy godparenting looks different, wishes aren’t wishing like they used to, and they’re trying their best to adapt!
We’re setting out to tell a new story in a new town, to introduce the amazing Fairly OddParents world to a new audience, while keeping the wide-ranging, ageless humor that will appeal to everyone, regardless of whether they grew up on the original, for some hilarious family co-viewing goodness. So yeah, we’re making another Fairly OddParents. To quote Timmy Turner, “What could possibly go wrong?!

The Story

Ten-year-old Hazel Wells has just moved to the big city of Dimmadelphia with her parents, so her dad could start a new job. On top of being in a new city, it’s the first time she’s been without her brother, who’s just started his first year of college. A bright, fun, creative kid, Hazel’s new situation suddenly has her feeling unsure of herself. But all that changes when the pink-and-green-haired couple next door reveals they’re no ordinary neighbors, they’re Cosmo and Wanda, fairy godparents! And they’re coming out of retirement to make all of Hazel’s wishes come true!
When we last saw our beloved pink-and-green-headed fairy godparents, in The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder, they were godparenting their second generation of Turner children, but after so long with just one family, they made the decision to hang up their fairy crowns and retire. Surely no new child could rival the Turners in their hearts, so why even try?! Jump to 10,000 years of vacationing through time and space! Exploring the wonders of Ancient Rome before it collapsed! Hobnobbing with aristocracy in 18th century France! Journeying to the moons of Jupiter in the year 26,000 P.G., whatever P.G. stands for!
Now they’ve settled down – no longer in some kid’s fishbowl but posing as humans in the bustling city of Dimmadelphia, assuming the form of endearing, across-the-hall neighbors to the Wells. Mimicking human life, Cosmo and Wanda set their sights on a peaceful retirement, ready to live out the remainder of their fairy days in an apartment that secretly offers direct access to Fairy World! That is, until they meet Hazel and are reminded why they loved their old job so much in the first place. Not since Timmy has a kid so tugged on their heart strings, and the instinct to fairy godparent quickly consumes them. Soon, they find themselves as fidget toys on Hazel’s backpack, ooey gooey blobs in her lava lamp, and even assuming the form of human bellhop and concierge at a hotel Hazel wished for. But after 10,000 years of using their magic only on themselves, are they really ready to get back in the game?
(Spoiler: they’re not, but they’re going to do it anyway!)

Hazel Wells

Black 10 years old
Spunky, fun, curious, and hugely imaginative, Hazel Wells is a small fry in a big world! Like, literally, she’s small. A petite cutie pie. A li’l nugget. She’s our tiny hero with a huge heart!
Think for a moment… Have you ever been the smallest kid in class? You have to ask for help to reach things, every year you get paraded to the front line for the class picture, and you get a patronizing pat on the head every time you do a great job at something – and that’s if they even notice you! Just about every kid can relate to the frustration of feeling, well, small. So when Hazel Wells moves to the BIG city of Dimmadelphia on account of her dad taking on a new job and is forced to leave behind everything she once knew – her friends, her home, and her big brother, Antony – she’s left feeling smaller than ever before.
But that’s not about to stop her! In spite of her miniature stature, Hazel is bold! She’s enthusiastic about life and all its wonders, and is an adventurer who loves to explore and ask questions! It’s what makes her such a great wisher – she’s curious about people, and the world, and hungry to learn more about her place in it.
At the very start of the series, she’s feeling a little more on the introverted than extroverted side. She’s in a new town and trying her best to be happy about it, but she always felt her brother Antony was like her secret superpower. He was smart, kind, confident, and most importantly, BIG. Having Antony around was an instant “in'' with people at school. All her teachers already knew and loved him, mean kids knew she had a protector, and cool kids thought she was cool just by association. Without him, she’s like Linus without his blanket… Dumbo without his feather. Without him, she’s just… Hazel. And just in this moment at least, she doesn’t feel like that’s enough.
Being chosen by Cosmo and Wanda as their fairy godkid is just the push Hazel needs to bust out of her shell and blossom! Where Timmy’s wishes were often self-serving, Hazel, at times, cares too much about other people. A little empathy is great. An over-abundance of it can lead to mental fatigue and well, chaos. Making wishes (and mistakes) and learning from them will teach her to love and put herself first, and share that love with the rest of the world.
And once the wishing begins, look out, because just like with Timmy, Hazel’s wishes are driven by who she is… and by the fact that she is a CHILD. And children are nothing if not passionate and unpredictable! Hazel’s wishes (and their undoing) will come mainly from the following personality traits…
She’s smart!
Hazel has a bit of an intellectual edge and tends to overthink things, thanks to her brainy mom and dad, so her wishes will have an extra layer of smarts to them. However, the bit of knowledge behind the wish won’t necessarily make it a wise wish. Children are charmingly lacking in critical thinking skills! Apologies to any children reading this. It’s not your fault. Your brains just aren’t at that developmental stage yet. It’s okay, you’ll get there. Also, who sent you this bible? This bible is property of Nickelodeon Animation Studio and its parent company.
She’s caring!
Hazel cares deeply about other people and fairness (so help you if Hazel sees you cut in line or litter…), so a lot of her wishes come from her compassion and her sense of right and wrong. Unfortunately, 10-year-olds don’t have a great grasp on nuance and tend to think of justice in black-and-white, and that is gonna lead Hazel into some sticky wishes.
She’s quirky!
Hazel’s an oddball with unusual interests and instincts. Timmy’s whole thing was that he was an average boy with average boy wishes. Hazel is… different, partly from being around her dad’s studies of freaky happenings in human history, partly from being around her mom’s studies into the human mind (also freaky), but also… it’s just who she is! She’s a feeler, adaptable, and full of imagination. This manifests in myriad ways, from turning her thoughts into songs and singing them aloud; to having niche obsessions with nature; to collecting a bunch of twigs, putting googly eyes on the twigs, and naming all the twigs.
In conclusion, Hazel’s wishes and adventures will inevitably result in making a lot of beautiful, messy mistakes. Hazel will learn and grow from each of these mistakes, just as all kids do! But Hazel’s learning and growing is gonna be full of magic, making it a heck of a lot more fun than the slow, boring growth the rest of us had to put up with.

Cosmo and Wanda (Returning Characters… obviously)

White, ageless
Green-haired, daffy, and childlike, Cosmo is the same whirlwind of fun we already know and love, but a little wiser for his additional 10,000 years. He didn’t do it on purpose, but it’s hard not to pick up a thing or two about human nature when you’ve lived this long. Cosmo is still quite dimwitted and will muck up a wish five ways from Sunday, but he’ll accidentally give you an epiphany here and there too. This is a Cosmo that’s gotten a little zen.
Sassy and silly, yet pragmatic, Wanda has always been the brains of the godparenting operation, and that dynamic remains the same. Problem is, these brains have been out of the game for a loooooong time, so while she might once have seen the dangers in making Timmy a giant pair of cheese pants, now it’s not as clear to Wanda what might go wrong with a wish. Consequently, go wrong, it will!
Cosmo and Wanda have a very loving, supportive dynamic. They both have their flaws and are very different from one another, but they’re also each other’s biggest fans.
Cosmo and Wanda both provide aspects of what Hazel lost when Antony went away to college. In Cosmo, she has a silly playmate. Cosmo is drawn to Hazel because he immediately connects to her oddball nature. Someone who’s down to put googly eyes on twigs? That’s his kind of kid. Cosmo will help Hazel approach the world with more openness. In Wanda, she has a nurturing, non-parental guardian again. Wanda is drawn to Hazel because she’s a good-hearted mess. Cosmo sees Hazel putting googly eyes on twigs and thinks, “Fun!” But Wanda sees the emotional need behind Hazel giving those twigs rich emotional backstories and relationships. Wanda sees a sweet kid in need of companionship and guidance and helps Hazel work out her problems through play and fun.
Timmy, Cosmo, and Wanda had a particular kind of friendship. Timmy and Cosmo were like a pair of unruly, id-driven goofballs with Wanda as the put-upon Mom. When a wish got out of control, Timmy needed heaps of pushing and prodding to clean up his messes. With Hazel, Cosmo, and Wanda, it will play out as a more evenly matched trio, with the comedy and dynamics shifting to fit the story and emotional core.
In a way, they’re all in need of help – Hazel because she’s new to making wishes, and Cosmo and Wanda because they’ve been on a 10,000-year break. Their dynamic will be about growing and getting better at magic together. Sometimes, a wish goes out of control because of Hazel, and Cosmo and Wanda must save the day. Sometimes, a wish goes out of control because of Cosmo, and Hazel and Wanda must save the day. And sometimes… well, you get it. All three will be the crisis and the solutions in a more equal measure

Angela Wells

Black, early 50s
Hazel’s mother Angela is an intelligent, poised therapist who’s accomplished all her life goals and continues to achieve. She has her own private practice and created a self-help therapy program, the “Be Wells Method.” Her “Be Wells” books and “Be Wells” therapy app are big hits with celebrities and on social media. Angela’s always taking inspiration from Hazel by osmosis. She’s constantly planning, strategizing, and developing her program, with plans to offer the “Wee Wells Method” for kids and “Deep Wells Method” for seniors.
Angela loves her daughter, but is such an expert in helping adults, she often forgets that Hazel isn’t one, and tries to tackle Hazel’s issues the same way she would help a grown woman in her 30s formulate a business plan. Sit down > offer coffee or tea > identify problem > offer solution. As a result, Hazel can spout a lot of therapy speak, but still has no idea how to deal with the basic kid things troubling her.
When Angela unknowingly gets caught up in the magic of Hazel’s wishes, she will always try to find a way to make it a “value add” to their home or her work. There are no problems in Angela’s world, only opportunities! Angela is a roll-with-the-punches kind of lady, so if Cosmo and Wanda suddenly fill the house with squid in a wish gone wrong, well then darn it, she’s gonna find a way to make calamari. She is often distracted and on the phone with her trusted assistant Beatrish via bluetooth earpiece. Which is great for Hazel, because keeping fairies a secret is a must!
Like Cosmo and Wanda, Angela and her husband, Marcus, are head over heels in love, despite having near opposite personalities. Their differences are often a point of hilarious conflict - Angela is minimalist, tidy, and thrives on structure, while Marcus is reckless and thrives in organized chaos. Both extroverts, their life has caused them to laugh, laugh, laugh through their challenges, always bringing them closer together.

Marcus Wells

Black, early 50s
Hazel’s father, Marcus, is a scatterbrained, but brilliant scholar, professor, and author who studies the intersection of human history, and the paranormal. He’s a guy who fully believes in every kind of magical/ mystical/inexplicable occurrence (witches, werewolves, ghosts, alien encounters, etc.), but will talk your ear off with the scientific explanation for each.
The Wellses have moved to Dimmadelphia so Marcus could take a teaching position at the Galax Institute, a small (unaccredited) institution of higher learning that focuses its curriculum on the “pseudosciences” (though, of course, that’s not how they refer to their subjects). What Marcus doesn’t know is all the evidence he’s chronicled over his career about paranormal events throughout history, has actually been fairy events throughout history.
His work will sometimes bring him dangerously close to finding out the truth about fairies and Hazel will have to scramble to throw him off Cosmo and Wanda’s sparkly trail. Unlike Mr. Crocker of the original series, however, Marcus’ continual near misses on finding out about the existence of fairies doesn’t come from a nefarious or selfish place, but an altruistic love of history and the truth. Marcus isn’t trying to steal anyone’s fairies; he’s just devoted to learning. Doesn’t mean we can have him in on the secret though! There are still Da Rules after all!
Marcus sees his daughter as being very special and even important to the world. While. Angela tries to analyze Hazel as an adult, Marcus hopes Hazel will become a leader in his field, often sharing newspaper clippings with her featuring unusual sightings and unexplained phenomena. He even sometimes does activities and exercises with her he hopes might encourage any possible latent supernatural talents within her, like telekinesis or mind-reading.

Antony Wells

Black, 18 years old
Hazel’s brother, Antony, is a smart, cool kid who’s going places. He’s an All-American, 4.0 track star. He also plays the oboe and rides a dirt bike. What doesn’t he do?! Antony is beyond smart and carries a quiet confidence – truly the mellowest of his family members. He can hold court on any topic from politics, to anime, to music theory. He is very protective of his younger sister and would do absolutely anything for her. He’s always been like a combination best friend/third parent to Hazel, but now that he’s off to college, he’s finding his way and making a new life separate from his oddball family.
We won’t meet Antony for a while – since his absence was the catalyst to Hazel needing Cosmo and Wanda, we can’t just bring the kid home for visits all the time. At the beginning of the series, he will only be present as an unseen living legend, which we’ll have some fun with by teasing the audience with only tiny glimpses – always out of frame, out of focus, present only in stories Hazel tells friends or in Angela and Marcus bragging about his college progress. Antony is a dream-come-true big brother, and he is sorely missed by Hazel. We all wish we had an Antony. We’ll meet him someday, but until then, the legend of Antony’s greatness will grow and grow.

Dale Dimmadome (Returning Character)

White, 40s
Dale is the long-lost son of Doug Dimmadome– billionaire, real estate tycoon, and owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome. When we last saw Dale, he was barefoot, in tattered clothes, and working in a sweatshop underneath Vicky’s lemonade stand.
Dale is now the tall, brooding heir to the Dimmadome fortune, and CEO of Dimmadome Gl0bal, the largest tech company in the world. Whereas his father was a haughty businessman clad in all white and a 10-gallon hat, Dale is a socially awkward genius, with slicked hair and a thirst for the next revolutionary tech breakthrough. The only thing bigger than Dale’s staunch demeanor is the chip on his shoulder – which is somewhat understandable, after being abandoned by his wealthy father for so many years.
Bit by bit, Dale will factor in as an adult antagonist to Hazel, Cosmo, and Wanda. Hazel’s wishes will sometimes leave a mark on the world, and Dale’s obsession with breaking new tech ground will have him take notice of some of these things, eventually making him a threat to Fairy World. But for now, he’s just an emotionally distant dad setting a bad example for his son, who will be Hazel’s first main antagonist.

Devin “Dev” Dimmadome

White, 10 years old
Dale Dimmadome’s son and frequent antagonist to Hazel (as stated above). Dev is in the same class as Hazel, giving her a front row seat to Dev’s raging sense of entitlement. Coming from money and seeing how his dad often operates “above the rules” as founder and CEO of his corporation, Dimmadome Gl0bal, Dev mimics that behavior at school – even going as far as having lunch delivered to class so he doesn’t have to walk to the cafeteria where the “peasants” eat.
Dev is smart as a whip and has fully embraced the need for technology, just like his father. His two drone babysitters, Au Pair 1 and Au Pair 2 accompany him wherever he goes and cater to his every beck and call (almost like a Siri or Alexa, but on the go!). On the inside though, he’s a lonely child yearning for his father’s attention. Somewhat like the wealthy Remy Buxaplenty of the original series, but with layers.
Hazel and Dev Dimmadome start as antagonists, but as he gets lonelier over the course of the season, he softens and grows

Season One Arc: Part 1 - Episodes 1-10

Most of Season One will focus on Hazel’s growth and her episodic adventures with Cosmo and Wanda. Some serialization will come into play with her antagonist Dev, as the two go from enemies to friends. The Season One, Part One finale, however, will introduce Dev’s dad, Dale Dimmadome, as a more serious antagonist, when Hazel appears in his data as a consumer anomaly, the only kid who isn’t addicted to his new app because she doesn’t need to buy things, she has fairy godparents granting her every wish! And Dale’s bad behavior in the finale will finally tip Dev into full needy child mode, one who is granted his very own godparent: a fully grown POOF (now Periwinkle a.k.a. Peri), Cosmo and Wanda’s son!

Season One Arc: Part 2 - Episodes 11-20

Hazel’s fun, episodic adventures with Cosmo and Wanda continue. Meanwhile, Peri struggles with how to be a good godparent to Dev, and Dale continues to research Hazel, eventually coming to learn about magic and fairies. Convinced it would make him the richest person who ever lived (imagine being able to use magic to sell people things!), he sets his sights on conquering Fairy World, with the help of classic FOP villains, the Pixies! In our Season One, Part Two finale, it’ll be up to Hazel, Cosmo, and Wanda to save the day!

2023.03.23 19:50 Fit_Toe_8748 MIT (and probably many other "top" colleges) is not for everyone

Throwaway account here. Used to go on A2C a lot in high school and still lurk sometimes. Currently a freshman at MIT, as title may suggest
I was reading some of the posts about colleges and vibes (looking for stuff about MIT lol), and in a sense, I agree with many of the things said, which I will elaborate on below.
Before I get into things, I will say I love MIT to death. I don't remember the last time I've felt this happy, and I have met amazing people who I truly believe to get me. But okay, I know a lot of people are probably here to listen to me diss my school so I'll do that now (and for the MIT '27 prefrosh: MIT is truly a wonderful place you will not regret coming here if you're the type of person who loves to work hard and play hard you'll meet so many amazing people and learn a ton and we have so much culture I love this place omg maybe it's because I'm a masochist but anyway)
I'm constantly in a state of stress. No matter how much I do I never feel like it's enough (I have gotten better at this though) because there's always someone doing better. Skipping prereqs to take a more advanced class freshman fall? Oh wait you know like ten people skipping that class too. Got a cool research position for the summer? Oh wait some freshmen landed internships at the fall career fair. And it goes on. I've tried and miserably failed to get any internships so now it's back to cold emailing professors and hoping they respond :') I always feel like I have an obligation to network as much as possible and take advantage of everything MIT has to offer, but there's just too much and I'm overwhelmed. I also hate career fairs, they stress me out so much but alas I think this is a must I think this is more of a me problem, though, but I assume there are many people out there who are like this. There are also plenty of people I know who didn't even try to get an internship and that is totally fine too!
I'm always tired. Last semester I could easily get 7 hours of sleep a night, but this semester sometimes I barely get 6. It's also a me problem tbh because I'm always in our lounge until very late, but because I often get back to my dorm late due to jobs and classes, I want to spend more time socializing and I have no self control. I've gotten to the point where sometimes I set an alarm pretty late so I can get 8 hours (in the rare occasion where I have nothing in the morning), but because I'm going to bed thinking about an essay I need to write, my body wakes up at least an hour before it actually rings anyway. I don't remember the last time I got 8 hours, it was probably over a month ago. My friends also have pretty bad sleep schedules, and I think that's a trend here
The grind never stops. You think you're done for the week then realize your next pset is due in a few days. Then when that's done you have another lab. And an essay. And a reading. And don't get me started on the physics learning sequences. You have a pset due in the morning? Don't forget your work shift is tonight. You also haven't done the work you promised your research supervisor, and the meeting is in two days! That graded-on-participation class you thought was supposed to be fluff? Nope, it has a lot of work too, if you really want a fluff class try Harvard. You're constantly working and hardly have time to relax. And things just keep coming. (spring break, which is next week, is so perfectly timed I need a break so bad)
This isn't something that bothers me specifically because my grades were never perfect in high school to begin with, but some of my friends are struggling with the fact that they can no longer ace every exam. This has been talked about a lot before, and I also can't speak from personal experience, so I'm not going to say more
Shitty people also exist here. "Holistic admissions" are in no way perfect and MIT, just like any other college, cannot filter out everyone with "bad" personalities. I'm not going to get into the details, but I've seen and heard some pretty terrible things happening here
People have also mentioned that the campus is dead, and as I'm looking out into Killian... yeah it kinda does look barren. We're all too busy studying for our midterms sorry (another point I forgot to mentions is that once midterm season starts, it never ends until you're hit with the finals :P). I think there's also the weather, campus will probably be a lot more lively on weekends or when it gets warmer. I would not know this, though, since I'm only a freshman
Despite all this, I fucking love it here, and my friends do too. MIT has become my home and I've definitely learned a lot about myself and am improving in many different ways. I love the culture here and the community (we're all so qUiRkY!) The endless work may sound like a nightmare, but in a way, I like it. If you're willing to constantly be dying of overworking, MIT is the place for you. spoiler for if you don't want to hear me defend MIT's campus:Some may also complain that our campus is ugly, but hey, it's definitely unique! If I showed you a picture of Stata or Simmons or the dome, you'd know it's MIT. I don't know how many other colleges are this recognizable~ And we do have trees and grass to touch and make campus more alive! It's just kinda cold and sad in the winter :(
It's in no way for everyone, but for certain people, it's a dream

Aight thanks for coming to my TED talk feel free to ask questions. I will not be disclosing any info about stats or essays or anything related to how I got in
Also I have no idea if this flair fits well but whatever

2023.03.23 19:45 BlackJ0ke Yo what would y'all do if she tells you that she's seeing more people?

Met with this girl 2 wks ago. We met in a club, she asked for my @ on ig and we met up there next week too. She's from another city, thought I'd visit her so I asked how her shifts were rn. She told me she can't fit it in her work schedule, and wanted me to know she's seeing more people. Does it change anything? Feel like I'm just an option for now. Texting went dry real quick lately too

2023.03.23 19:15 obwblue1 Miller Lites it Up: The UnendingRebuild's Top 18 Rookie RB Class Review

Welcome to the final iteration of the Unending Rebuild podcast's 2023 rookie running back review. Thanks to all who have read these posts and listened along as we continue to watch the film and publish our thoughts. We will be right back at it next week but this time, we will be doing receivers.
On this final episode, we began by discussing two final RBs, Eric Gray and Evan Hull and then get right into building our consensus RB rankings as a podcast. Below, you will find our review of Gray and Hull, alongside of all of our previous reviews posted here over the past few weeks. To hear our consensus rankings, check out our podcast here to listen to debate our own individual rankings to build consensus.
We'd love to hear your top 5 RBs so drop them below to start some discussion!
And now for the player review.
Eric Gray (Oklahoma):
  1. Projected Draft Capital: Day 3
  2. BMI: 29.7, very solid
  3. Pass blocking: A very solid blocker, expresses a strong willingness to meet oncoming rushers and with his size he can make some good plays. No reason for it to keep him off the field.
  4. Pass catching: 87th percentile target share. Was a surprisingly solid route runner who displays soft hands. Oklahoma's QB was really not very good but Gray made the best of it getting some nice catches and displaying great quickness after the catch.
  5. Situation: Would love to see him be a handcuff to a star runningback. He has a three-down skillset and justtttt has enough size. Perhaps to a team with an aging vet would be a good fit. Would not be surprised to eventually see him as a starter one day.
  6. Running ability: Very quick in the open field. He exhibits a shifty jump cut and has a killer spin move. His ability to read the line can improve a bit. Sometimes, he expresses great patience and hits the hole, other times he takes it out wide way too quickly. Not elite breakaway speed but solid.
Eric Gray is a former top 100 recruit who initially committed to Tennesee, where his career did not exactly take off beyond some solid receiving work before transferring to Oklahoma. However, he produced at a great clip his senior year on a relatively poor Oklahoma team, running for nearly 1400 yards and getting 33 catches. I honestly did not know much at all about Gray going into this review. We all came away very pleasantly surprised. He's not elite, but he can really do it all. To me, there is not a significant weakness to his game and he expresses some crazy ability to lose defenders in the open field. There is now an Eric Gray fan club with I as it's founding member. Buy stock. Our consensus RB 11 (which in class is pretty good). Get him with your late round picks.
Evan Hull (Northwestern):
  1. Projected Draft Capital: Day 3
  2. BMI: 30, lovely stuff
  3. Pass blocking: Below average, will not be drafted for this ability but he could develop it with his size. He projects as a pass-catching back so this is not the best shortcoming from him.
  4. Pass catching: His best ability. Hull featured heavily in Northwestern's really bad passing game. Last year, he had a huge 97 percentile target share with 55 receptions. He is not electric in the open space but does have good hands.
  5. Situation: Likely as a third-down pass-catching back at his peak. His one-dimensional running downhill style will work on third and long draws too.
  6. Running ability: Look, Hull is fast. He got on people's radars running a 4.47 in the 40 at the combine. But it takes more than just being fast to be a good runner in the NFL. His issue is quickness. His running is more plodding than graceful. He struggles to cut to beat defenders in the open field or in between the tackles.
Generally, we did not like Evan Hull too much. He has some things going for him for sure, his 40 time, size and pass-catching are not things you see every day. That said, we think his pass-catching numbers are inflated by his situation at Northwestern. They had few other options to pass the ball to. I mean they went 1-11 for a reason. We think he will be very limited by his lack of quickness in the NFL. And I wanted to like him going into the film too. He feels like a fun sleeper to dream of given his measurables. I hope he proves me wrong though, you could tell how hard of a worker he was during the combine. I will not be drafting him as of now. Our RB 17 of 18.
Read below for the rest of our player reviews (in no particular order). Make sure to listen here for the full consensus rankings
Bijan Robinson-
  1. Draft capital- Likely mid to late first
  2. Size: BMI 29.8. Lovely stuff
  3. Pass blocking: Not always the most eager pass blocker, but has the size and traits to be serviceable to keep him on the field.
  4. Pass catching: 77th percentile target share, has decent hands and some variety to his route tree. What matters is his explosion up the field in open space. Definitely fit to be a three-down player.
  5. Situation: TBD
  6. Running ability: Incredible burst through the hole, no one that big should move that quickly. Also runs with power and can destroy tacklers. Good but not amazing top end speed. If there are any cons we noticed, he can be a littttle indecisive hitting the hole and can sometimes get into trouble
A great prospect, do not overthink it. But, if you can in a SF league, try to shop that 1.01 around for a top QB. See what happens, you never know. QBs are king.
Jahmyr Gibbs:
  1. Draft capital: Likely Day 2
  2. Size: BMI: 27.9: Not great but not insurmountable. Would hope to see that improve with the combine measurements
  3. Pass blocking: Not the best blocker right now, will miss some reads but is so often used in the receiving game it can be tough to notice. His limited size does not help in this regard.
  4. Pass catching: 93rd percentile target share. Absolutely elite, looked like Young's primary target for large chunks at a time. Route running, hands, and YAC ability are all there. This is his game.
  5. Situation TBD:
  6. Running ability: He is a bit small and plays a bit small, he does not have the best contact balance. Would be a bit worried to see how that translates to the NFL level in between the tackles. But, in the open field, he's pretty quick and will make guys miss. Great burst and top end speed.
We were honestly a little underwhelmed after watching this game film. We expected more from the general industry consensus clear-cut second best running back in this class and he leaves a little bit to be desired for a player that you have to use significant draft capital on.
Zach Charbonnet:
  1. Draft capital: Toward the back half of day 2
  2. Size: BMI: 29
  3. Pass blocking: A very willing blocker, his height and weight help him throw big hits at defenders. Something scouts will like.
  4. Pass catching: Now this one surprised us. ZC had 37 receptions last year, good for a 93rd percentile target share. And no, not all of these catches are easy! He has good, reliable hands and can run some more intricate routes. Not every day does a player with his size feature this skillset.
  5. Situation: TBD
  6. Running ability: He is a big dude and plays like it. He can lower the boom on guys. He runs heavy which impacts his top-end speed (I expect around a 4.55 40) but he can be decently quick on his feet in open space. He loves hitting tacklers with force to get a few more yards. Runs a bit too straight up which is not great.
Overall, we all love Charbonnet. He hits each of the qualifications laid out so far. If he can get good day 2 capital, and especially if he runs better than a 4.55, place him higher up on your player boards.
Devon Achane:
  1. Draft capital: Toward the back half of day 2
  2. Size: BMI: 27.3, small. This will be a theme throughout his review.
  3. Pass blocking: He is a decent blocker, the willingness is there. But again, size will be an issue in matchups with linebackers and line.
  4. Pass catching: Achane is very valuable here. His natural catching ability isn't elite but is very serviceable. Where he is dangerous is in the open space, and he finds it a lot with his incredibly shifty route running.
  5. Situation: TBD
  6. Running ability: Again, he is small, but he is so incredibly fast. Incredibly fast. I would expect him to run between 4.25 or 4.29 in the 40. It'll be appointment TV to watch him run. To go along with that, he is also very quick in the open space. He provides amazing acceleration through the gaps. But again, he is much smaller than the typical NFL running back.
As a podcast, we are a bit torn on how to evaluate Achane. While he is very very fast, his size is an issue. But if there is anyone to replicate Tarik Cohen's RB12 season, it would be him. He needs a role built for him, which is oftentimes not music to dynasty manager's ears
DeWayne McBride (UAB)-
  1. Projected Draft Capital- late day 2, early day 3
  2. Size- BMI: 30, love that
  3. Pass blocking: Hardly asked to pass block or play the role of a third-down back. It's hard to say how good he is at it with little film to demonstrate his capability, but it seems he can make plenty of improvement.
  4. Pass catching: 8th percentile target share. Hardly, hardly caught balls or was targeted in college. Only has 5 catches in his college career. I wouldn't say he can't catch, this was mostly scheme related. You really do not know what his pass-catching chops are because he never did it. His backup did have 19 catches last year, so they do throw to RBs at times.
  5. Situation: You would love for him to be drafted to a team with a zone running scheme so he can be a thumper on early downs and hit the holes quickly.
  6. Running ability: He seems to have the tools to be an early down back in the NFL. Evaluating his film, you love his ability in between the tackles. He hits the hole with patience and burst, and can cut quickly in traffic to make something out of nothing.
What you like about DeWayne McBride is his college production. He was the second-leading rusher in football last year with over 1,700 yards. Also, his size profiles perfectly to the NFL. He will get you solid gains on the ground but lacks breakaway speed. That said, it is difficult to project him as a player who gets consistent snaps in passing situations, limiting his fantasy value. He also has some fumbling issues, fumbling 11 times the last 2 seasons. Will be a solid NFL player but likely underwhelming in fantasy. Furthermore, McBride will be out of the combine with a hamstring injury. Seeing what he could do in the passing drills would've been very telling. This will likely limit his draft capital.
Kendre Miller (TCU)-
  1. Projected Draft Draft Capital- Day 2
  2. Size- BMI: 29. Toward the lower end of the ideal range. We think he may even be heavier than listed, would expect this to go up.
  3. Pass blocking: A very capable pass blocker, not amazing but certainly a strength.
  4. Pass catching: 33rd percentile target share. Similar to his pass blocking, he is not a prolific receiver, but he can certainly do the job. He is very quick in open space and can make the big play if given the chance. Gives me additional hope for improved involvement in the passing game.
  5. Situation: If he can get drafted to a team with a below-average RB room, he could takeover and be the guy there.
  6. Running ability: My first thought when watching Miller is that this guy is an aggressive violent runner. I love his style, he is always driving forward and landing on top of his tacklers to get an extra yard. But, unlike a lot of "violent runners" he is also light on his feet and can make something out of nothing.
We love Miller. I think he and Tucker are the best running backs out of these four. He seems like he can bring everything you would for to the table. A bully running style with decent hands and the ability to make big plays in unexpected circumstances. Getting him in the late first or early second of your rookie drafts gives you a real chance of getting a three-down back. Another thing to be considered is that his presence in part led to Zach Evans being transferred to Ole Miss.
Tyjae Spears (Tulane)-
  1. Projected Draft Capital: Early Day 3
  2. Size: BMI: 30.1 as per Senior Bowl measurements. He was listed as 195 in college, very nice to hear he could put on more weight to become 204. Still small but his high BMI helps him.
  3. Pass blocking: A willing blocker who works hard, he can struggle to maintain his blocks with his size but is capable.
  4. Pass catching: 66th percentile target share. Not the softest hands but is still capable in the passing game. His deficiencies are compensated for by his incredible quickness in open spaces.
  5. Situation: We think the most likely scenario for Spears will be as a third-down back for an NFL team. But, we think he possesses some star power attributes that could propel him into a true starting role. Going to a team like the Chargers as an Ekeler backup and perhaps eventual replacement would be a good fit.
  6. Running ability: Man is he slippery. He always seems to find a way to escape and make a big play. He sets up his blockers in open space very intelligently. He has great burst hitting the hole and has decent contact balance getting through it.
We love the idea of Spears. Being the star of nonpowerhouse team is always fun to watch and root for. And we appreciate how he bore the weight of Tulane's offense on his shoulders and excelled doing it. The fact that he went for 200 yards and 4 tds against USC proves shows his tenacity. We just have our doubts that this can translate to the NFL. He did star at the Senior Bowl, but can he maintain this production with his stature at the NFL level? He would be an outlier. I would think his likely career path is Michael Carter-esque.
Sean Tucker (Syracuse)-
  1. Projected Draft Capital: Late Day 2, early day 3.
  2. Size- BMI: 30.1. Nice weight at 210 lbs.
  3. Pass blocking: Decent but needs room for improvement. Not a strength but not a weakness.
  4. Pass catching: 95th percentile target share. More than capable pass catcher, had 36 receptions last year. Good route runner and has solid hands. Coupling that with his explosive speed he is very capable.
  5. Situation: Anywhere Tucker goes he will compete for snaps immediately, he should win many of those reps with his ability to play all three downs. Would be great in Miami in my mind.
  6. Running ability: Tucker is big and fast and he knows how to use it. He can set up his blocks and burst through the hole. I thought he maybe got some happy feet making decisions while cutting at times but perhaps I am being critical.
We love Tucker. There is a real chance he runs a 4.3 being a star track athlete. How often does a running back with his size, that could run that speed, that broke out as a sophomore, who has a 95th percentile target share and has his size. His profile offers true three-down potential. Also, imagine seeing his tweets at the NFL level.
Zach Evans (Ole Miss)-
  1. Projected Draft Capital- Early day 3
  2. Size: BMI: 28.2, not great but not entirely disqualifying
  3. Pass blocking: We found Evans to not be a great pass blocker, he does not always seem to put in all his effort when blocking leading to some errors nor does he not have the best mechanics. Really just below average.
  4. Pass catching: 51st percentile target share in college. He's certainly capable but I am not sure it's anything to be overly impressed with. Not a weakness, not a strength.
  5. Situation: Best case scenario in our eyes for Evans would be for him to be a backup in a good organization at the beginning of his career. Let him learn the tools of the trade before being able to potentially utilize his physical gifts more effectively.
  6. Running ability: Evans's strength comes with his running ability. He can break tackles efficiently, has decent speed/burst and can drive his feet forward well in the pile. Does have some fumbling concerns, fumbling five times over the course of his roughly 300 college touches.
As a podcast, we are not as high on Evans as others. While he does have some redeeming stats in his favor (such as leading the nation in rate of attempts with a forced missed tackle at 25%), his overall profile generates concerns leading into the NFL level. First, we think a lot of his production is aided by his situation. Originally committing as a five-star recruit to play at TCU, and then transferring to Ole Miss, Evans has never been a true starter in a college environment. He lost his job to Kendre Miller (who we love) at TCU and then to star freshman (and 2025 rookie draft pick) Quinshon Judkins at Ole Miss. We do not like he could not hold down a job, and we think a lot of his more favorable stats are products of playing against lighter boxes, in passing down situations and not seeing as many carries. Also seems to mentally check out at times. He could very well turn out to be a solid NFL player but it could take time.
Izzy Abanikanda (Pitt)-
  1. Projected Draft Capital- Early Day 3
  2. Size: BMI: 30.1, ideal size, workhorse body type
  3. Pass blocking: Solid in effort, raw in execution. He will improve.
  4. Pass catching: Not prolific by any means with his 42nd percentile target share, but you feel compelled to through him the ball more given his explosiveness. Serviceable hands.
  5. Situation: Would love to see him in a zone-blocking scheme situation when he can receive tosses and hit the hole with his great speed. We project him as a solid NFL starter.
  6. Running ability: Raw with his mechanics but incredibly fast with great contact balance. His natural quickness allows him to brush off contacts and his sure feet allow him to keep balance. Can breakaway any run.
Overall, we really enjoyed watching Abanikanda's tape. To us, he seems like a pure natural athlete. He is incredibly fast. If he would have run at the combine I would've expected him to hit a 4.3. You can see it in his film too with his frequent breakaway runs. I mean, just watch his Va Tech tape if you can, 300+ yards and 6 touchdowns is just insane. That said, we think Abanikanda's biggest flaw is that he is raw. His route running, his pass blocking and his run timing can leave you wanting more at times. But we think these are things can be learned and it must be remembered he is only 20. He will keep getting better and he has the ideal size, age and athleticism to do so. You're lucky he did not run in the combine, the hype is not building, yet.
Chase Brown (Illinois)-
  1. Projected Draft Capital- Day 3
  2. Size: BMI: 30.0, Ideal size, workhorse body type
  3. Pass blocking: Good size for a blocker and can improve, is willing but has a tendency to miss assignments at times.
  4. Pass catching: 66th percentile target share. I actually liked his hands, they seemed rather soft. Can run the basic routes, solid.
  5. Situation: I think Brown would be best off starting his NFL career in a secondary role. I think he could be a really solid compliment to Ekeler in LA. LA has been looking for years (Josh Kelley, Larry "Price of Brick" Rountree, Isaiah Spiller) and Brown's aggressive run style would tire defenses out for Ekeler and give Brown valuable experience.
  6. Running ability: Very productive in college, he demonstrates great burst when hitting the line of scrimmage as exemplified through his measurables at the combine. But with his burst comes his main flaw. He really only runs at his top speed, which leads to issues with patience for the holes to develop at the line. One of the main reasons I think he would be a good compliment to Ekeler, he would just throw himself at defenders, helping to tire them out.
Chase Brown enjoyed a great combine, it bumped him into this tier that we gathered today. His burst is fantastic, and he runs with aggression and power, especially for his size. He is clearly very athletic with a 9.62 RAS score. He also produced really well in college with a 93rd percentile dominator grade in a major conference. That said though, Brown is an older prospect, spending 5 years in college and turns 23 in a few weeks. You would like his running style to be more refined for his age, exhibiting more patience at the line. Furthermore, we did not find his contact balance to be great. We think Brown profiles as a solid backup option moving into his NFL career.
Tank Bigsby (Auburn)-
  1. Projected Draft Capital: Early Day 3
  2. Size: BMI: 28.5, a little smaller than you would like but not disqualifying
  3. Pass blocking: Solid, nothing more nothing less. Does not project to be a third-down back in the NFL so will not need to be utilized too much.
  4. Pass catching: Honestly, not amazing despite having 30 receptions his final year at Auburn. His hands are not the best and will offer little beyond catching dump-offs and screens.
  5. Situation: We think Bigsby will do best in the NFL as a first and second-down back. He will be that guy to make something out of nothing, a skill learned through Auburn's lackluster offensive line. Pairing him with a pass-catching back would likely result in a really solid NFL backfield.
  6. Running ability: Each one of us separately highlighted one key attribute to Bigsby's game, his vision. He is such a smart runner. He quickly and intelligently identifies the running lanes in his offensive line, misleading defenders and leading his blockers. We think this will translate well to the NFL level. He also demonstrates good elusiveness to avoid tacklers in the box. He lacks elite dynamism but will be a very solid NFL running back. Does run with an upright running style.
Like explained above, Bigsby's running intelligence sets him apart in this class. Being such a smart player and only being 21.5 years old bodes very well for his long-term NFL success in our eyes. We heavily compare him to Jamaal Williams. They profile the exact same physically and we even project them to fulfill similar roles in the NFL, guys who will never receive a majority of the work nor be a star, but he will get you those hard yards against stacked boxes when you need them.
Kenny McIntosh (Georgia):
  1. Projected Draft Capital- Late day 2, early day 3
  2. Size- BMI: 27.7
  3. Pass blocking- One of the more solid pass blockers in the class, frequently shows willingness and ability to block well. Should translate to his projected 3rd down RB role in the NFL.
  4. Pass catching- His strength. A 79th percentile target share for an RB while at Georgia is no easy feat. His wheel route and ability to turn/accelerate upfield after the catch are lovely. Soft hands. Had over 500 receiving yards last season. Love his quickness in the open field.
  5. Situation- Would love for him to slot right in as a team's third-down back. Cincinnati seems infatuated with taking Mixon out on third downs so that would be a good landing spot for him. Hopefully, he goes to a team that experiments with using him in the slot.
  6. Running ability- Not the best runner in between the tackles. He oftentimes does not read the blockers well which will result in indecisive runs. This is especially obvious to the viewer considering he plays behind Georgia's line. That said, in open space, he is very quick. He also surprised me with his ability to drive his legs forward and tacklers backward to get the extra yard.
Overall, we really like McIntosh as a potential third-down back in the NFL. Personally, I'd love to see him used as a slot receiver, he moves and even looks like one. His Oregon tape was his best showing. To me, it shows his future as a dynamic option in the passing game with room to grow in between the tackles. His 40 time (4.62) and size + weight were a bit disappointing at the combine, but his tape really pops in our eyes. But he is not scorching defensive backs. He is also a bit old having just turned 23. That said, we think he will most likely be a solid 3rd down RB at the NFL level with room to improve to see his time on the field increase.
Chris Rodriguez (Kentucky):
  1. Projected Draft Capital- Day 3
  2. Size- BMI: 29.4
  3. Pass blocking- He can be an ok blocker due to his size. But his lack of pass-catching ability does not make you want to put him on the field in those situations.
  4. Pass catching- 34th percentile target share. It certainly is not his strength, exemplified by his 20 catches in 5 college seasons. His lack of quickness in open space does not project him to have much YAC.
  5. Situation- Would see him best fitting into the NFL as a big, battering ram/plodder type back when you need a few yards. Think of someone like Peyton Barber.
  6. Running ability- He certainly fit into Kentucky's power run offense, amassing over 500 carries throughout his college career. He is a big dude who is hard to bring down with arm tackles, and will run a defender or two over. But that's about it. He is not very quick when making his cuts, and can be a bit hesitant when not just powering into space. Does not have great breakaway speed. Dynamic is not a word I would use to describe him.
As a podcast, we did not like Rodriguez very much. We think he fits well with the Peyton Barber comp. We do not think he shows athleticism to be an enticing fantasy option. I'd think the only way he becomes substantially relevant for fantasy is if he receives a high volume of carries. He did produce well at Kentucky, but his size is not good enough to fit this play style in the NFL, nor do we think he has the quickness to compensate for no longer being relatively massive. That said, I think he could still work to get a long NFL career as a short-yardage guy. His toughness and strong contact balance in the box are evident.
Deuce Vaughn (Kansas St):
  1. Projected Draft Capital- Early day 3
  2. Size- BMI: 29.8 (but, as you may have heard, 5'5'' 179lbs
  3. Pass blocking- Frankly, is too small to pass block with effectiveness, Chip blocks if anything, but asking him to do anything else would be silly.
  4. Pass catching. Like McIntosh, this is Vaughn's strength. An elite 96th percentile target share. His burst and quickness in open space are remarkable. He breaks defender's ankles for fun. He also exhibits soft hands and the ability to compete for contested catches, believe it or not.
  5. Situation- Can anyone say Ekeler replacement in LA? Where his comp Darren Sproles started his career? As fun as that would be, Vaughn projects to be used primarily in passing down situations. A coordinator will need to be clever getting the ball to him. Think of someone like Tarik Cohen for a more recent example. Coming in heavier than expected at 179 lbs takes his NFL chances to a much more practical record.
  6. Running ability- Love watching him run just because it's almost like the front 7 cannot see Vaughn when he runs, he just hides behind his line. While being very quick, running in between the tackles is not his strength. If he gets grabbed by any member of the front 7 he is very likely going down. But that's ok, it won't be what he is expected to do in the NFL.
It should be the focus of NFL coordinators to scheme Vaughn into open space with the ball in his hands. He is truly dynamic and incredibly quick. While his size is a detriment, it is not disqualifying given his solid BMI. The obvious comp is Darren Sproles, who also went to Kansas St. If there is a player of recent time to replicate Sprole's career, it would be Vaughn. That said, Vaughn has shown he can carry a workload, alleviating some concerns of being injury prone given his size. He also exhibited very very good production at Kansas St, rushing for nearly 3,000 yards, catching 91 passes and scoring 34 TDs in his last two years. However, being Darren Sproles is likely his best-case scenario. It is unlikely and very hard for a RB of his size to exceed for a prolonged time in the NFL. Hopefully, he can do it because he is someone I would love to watch on Sundays.
Roschon Johnson (Texas):
  1. Draft capital- Day 3
  2. Size: BMI- 29.7
  3. Pass blocking: A very solid blocker. Played fullback at times. Was often asked to block for Robinson. Definitely a strength in his game. Has the size to do the job at the next level.
  4. Pass catching: His 41st percentile target share is solid considering who he shared the backfield with. He won't wow you with out-of-frame catches, but he is certainly capable in the dump-off game.
  5. Situation: I think Johnson best projects as a power back/handcuff option for NFL teams. I can 100% see a world where Johnson is never a long term starter, but is well-rounded enough to spot start the starter or even be a transition starting back for a team for a season.
  6. Running ability- A very strong runner, he has tremendous power in his game. He is sturdy and hits the hole with good burst. He does not have great top speed but has good speed for his size. Not too quick, more bowling ball than a hockey puck.
Like I said above, Johnson just does the basics well. He does not have elite traits, but he just does everything decently. He also was never the feature back at Texas, playing behind someone y'all might have heard of. I think this has wrongly created a mythical perception of Johnson, perceived as this unknown entity with buckets of athleticism and promise. However, I think he is just solid. Jack of all trades, master of none. I'd be excited to see if this results in him being a handcuff option in the future who can slot into a three-down role when needed. He also plays all four phases of special teams, helping him to keep finding roster spots down the road if things go south.

2023.03.23 19:12 ifso215 The Bauer 90-day warranty is brilliant. Hear me out…

I jumped into the Bauer system last month, and so far I've really liked everything I've bought (rattail grinder, cordless rotary tool, brushless multi tool, 1/4 in brushless impact driver.) The 90 day warranty did scare me to death at first, but then it started to make sense…
I paid $52 for an brushless impact driver with a 2-year walk-in-and-exchange-it warranty. It would have been $40 if I skipped the warranty. That's insane. It's competitive with all of the top name brands on Torque Test Channel, but I wasn't forced to buy the cost of a warranty I may never use. This is value engineering 101, they are just doing it with the warranty on certain brands, and Bauer is where you see the biggest savings. They take a very different approach with their lifetime-warranty hand tools, but that's a different story for another day.
The 90-day warranty allows HF to sell Bauer as a better tool at a lower price. What they are doing is taking a very performance-competitive prosumer tool (just watch the comparison tests on any of the brushless stuff) and SEPERATING the cost of the warranty from the cost of the tool itself. That tool from another brand may also only cost $35 to make, but you're going to pay $65 for marketing, middle-man markups and front-loaded warranty costs, then you've got a $100 tool instead of a $40 one.
This approach is brilliant if you ask me, and I can't recall where, but they’ve said as much when asked about increasing the Bauer warranty. What percentage of a Milwaukee tool's price is covering warranty replacements? What about DeWalt? Ryobi? You'll never know. At Harbor Freight, you do. If I don't have to finance warranty replacements for contractors who abuse their tools all day, I'm going to save a boatload of money.
What HF is not doing is communicating WHY Bauer has such a short warranty to customers, so the customer assumes it's because the product is so bad they won't stand behind it. This is a big missed messaging opportunity on their part IMO.
I suggest they change their messaging and say Bauer cordless have "a la carte" warranties or some similar positive language. If they were smart they'd put the warranty prices right on the Point of Sale tags for transparency. Why not have each price card say "Add our famous no-hassle in-store warranty for just $8 for 1-year or $12 for 2-years." Seems like a no-brainer to me. This isn't a Circuit City extended warranty scam where you have to go through seven sets of lawyers to get your headphones fixed, you walk in, have them pull up your receipt by phone number and date and swap out the tool for a new one.
HF is not forcing you to take the expense of a warranty you may not need, and Bauer prices are what that looks like.
Going to use the tool a lot right away and think you'll find any defects in 90 days? Congratulations, you just got the best performance-to-dollar deal out there. If it's not up to the task, well you'll get your money back or credit in those 90 days. Are you a DIY guy that might only use that tool once in the next three months, but want peace of mind? Sure, buy that 2-year warranty for $12 or whatever, you'll have a better experience warrantying that tool at Harbor Freight than you would anywhere else, and you've still spent less than nearly all competing brands.
TL:DR:
Bauer tools don't have a 90-day warranty because HF thinks they are crap, they have a 90-day warranty to keep the bare tool price and as low as possible while matching up really well against the name brands on performance. It would be great if they changed their messaging and advertised their a-la-carte warranty as a value-maximizing feature rather than letting customers assume it's a product quality fault.
Rant over. Now where's my 8AH 21700 cell batteries and 12V Hercules ratchet combo kits!

2023.03.23 19:04 OrangeSpaceProgram The Battle for the Blue Planet Part 6: At What Cost

Cracked 5000 words on this one. Enjoy.
Warning: Suicide.
<<First <Previous Goodbye

Ships from the Home Fleet descended on the Red Spark like a pack of hungry wolves when they found her adrift. Human and Dlamisan medics were the first to board and immediately began a medivac of the wounded and dead to the fleet’s hospital vessels. Next came the engineers. Almost every ship in the fleet sent their best and brightest to the Red Spark to keep her space worthy. In mere hours her engines and hull were repaired. Then as suddenly as all the help arrived, they all left.
Down on the planet, there was a titanic rescue effort going on. Cities and towns had been struck by falling debris and everyone able was ordered to assist in the operation to save as many lives as possible. Unfortunately, that meant that for the next several days all comms traffic was dedicated solely to emergency response as most of Earth’s communication satellites had been destroyed in the fighting. Communication with friends and family had to wait. But fortunately, the celebration on the Red Spark didn’t.

Deep in the belly of the Red Spark laid a bar. A bar not made of metal alloy like the rest of the ship, but more like something you’d find in one of the old cities of Earth. The walls were paneled with wood from the worlds that the Red Spark had visited, giving the bar an almost plaid-like pattern. Against that plaid wall laid nearly a dozen restaurant-style booths with their wood paneling being almost as varied as the room itself.
As stunning as the rest of the room was, it was nothing compared to the bar that filled the center of the space. It went nearly from wall to wall before curving in an L shape, making it seem like it stretched for miles. Nearly a dozen different woods from the Dlamisan homeworld made up just the countertop. Each wood on the countertop seemed to correspond with the wood of five stools that were carefully matched from Earth’s native trees. In all there were nearly seventy stools across the bar, which combined with the booths would total just enough seats for the entire crew of the Red Spark. Sadly, the entire crew of the Red Spark would never fill them again. Instead, the only ones at the bar counter currently were three crewmembers. Sunny, McCoy, and the bartender himself.
McCoy Sat down next to Sunny and looked at the bartender who was still righting bottles, glasses, and other utensils that were knocked about during the fighting. He made to speak up and order when suddenly the bartender turned and stared at him. McCoy had cleaned himself up since the battle. No longer was he sporting a blood-soaked uniform that covered an equally drenched set of fur. He was wearing what could only be described as a pirate’s best. But despite his fine wears Jack’s gun could still be seen poking out from his pocket.
McCoy opened his muzzle to place his order to the staring bartender, “A scotch, please. And not just that stuff we keep around for mixing with those human sodas. Let me get a glass of the stuff from before the war.”
The bartender had gotten a good look at McCoy and noticed the shape of the weapon and handle poking out of his pocket. So instead of turning back to the bar and making the requested drink, he instead pointed his hand to a sign hanging up on the wall behind the counter. “All weapons must be turned in before receiving service.” Apparently, there had been an incident several years prior where some humans and dlamisa were bored and tried to use plasma pistols on low power rather than darts on one of the bar's two boards. Needless to say, it hadn’t gone well the burn marks that still hung on the wall proved it. The bartender never forgave the incident and forced all his patrons to hand over all their weapons before being allowed to drink, on pain of sobriety those who dared not to obey.
McCoy not wanting to make a fuss reached into his pocket and pulled out the pistol, he looked at it mournfully before setting it on the counter for the bartender to take. Professionally the bartender picked up the weapon, cleared it, and took it to a secure back room hidden from view of the bar.
While both the bartender and McCoy had handled the interaction with silent professionalism, Sunny hadn’t. She had been one of the few officers gifted with one of those weapons and was shocked to see McCoy had one in his possession.
Picking her jaw up from the countertop she asked the question that seemed to have been overlooked by the bartender. “McCoy, where did you get that gun?”
McCoy looked at Sunny and took a deep breath he spoke, “It was Jack’s. It’s mine now. That’s all that matters.”
“McCoy he wouldn’t have given that gun up to anyone less than his mate! Not to mention that he still wouldn’t do it so long as he could still breathe!” Sunny interjected, apparently not satisfied with his previous answer.
McCoy in response just looked at the bartender as he returned from storing the mentioned firearm. The bartender cocked his head in an unspoken question that McCoy answered with a small nod. The bartender then turned and made the medic’s requested drink before looking at Sunny.
“McCoy and Jack are mates. I’m not aware of the specifics, but they’ve been together for several decades at this point,” The bartender explained.
“Were mates… We were mates… He was the first to die, and he did it in my arms,” McCoy muttered, correcting the bartender.
“McCoy… Why didn’t you tell me you two… We’ve been friends for…” Sunny stuttered out before taking a breath, switching to Enkanti. “To say I’m sorry for your loss would not be a suitable response. You’ve been my friend for so long, you deserve better than that. Whatever you need I am here to provide,” Sunny said staring at the depressed medic.
“The only things I need are a few more of these,” McCoy said swirling his glass before continuing, “And a bottle to take back with me,” he finished huffing in sarcastic amusement.
“Then whatever you want I’ll pay for. I’m not leaving you to drink alone,” Sunny responded, putting a paw around the medic’s shoulder.
“Nobody here is paying for anything. My bar is open. Anything you want is yours, even from my personal collection if you’d like,” the bartender said switching the conversation back to English.
“Thank you both, as enticing as it sounds I’d really just like to finish this one and take a bottle back to my office. I need some time alone…” McCoy trailed off.
Sunny hugged him a little tighter before responding, “That’s ok McCoy. Both of us will be here for you whenever you’d like to come back.”
So there the three sat in silence for nearly an hour as they each downed their respective drinks. Eventually, McCoy found himself staring at an empty glass that was held in his shaky paws. Sunny and the bartender watched him as he carefully set the glass down and made to get up from the bar.
“Can I get that bottle now? I feel like it's time for me to go,” McCoy said quietly.
“Of course, you can,” The bartender responded before reaching up to the very top shelf and pulling down an old unmarked bottle of brown liquid. “Scotch from before humanity played with Nukes. Same brand as the one we had back when we first met,” He finished, gently placing the bottle in front of McCoy.
McCoy carefully picked up the bottle and stared at the bartender. Thoughts raced through his head as he felt the weight of the bottle in his paws. Every memory he had with the pair across from him flashed in front of his eyes. Every happy and sad day blended together in one long stream before abruptly ending as the bartender reached over the counter and wrapped up McCoy in a hug that felt strong enough to bend steel.
“Thank you. Thank you both,” McCoy said nodding to Sunny and the bartender before continuing. “One last thing before I go. I need Jack’s… no, my, gun back.”
The bartender’s eyes fell and his small smile turned into a deep frown. It seemed like he hoped McCoy would have forgotten. Quietly he got up and went to the back room to go fetch it. Seconds turned to minutes as the bartender still hadn’t returned with the gun. McCoy briefly began to consider getting it himself before suddenly the bartender returned holding the small silver weapon.
He placed it on the counter and slid it across, never taking his hand off of it. McCoy grabbed for the weapon, but it didn’t budge under the hand of the bartender. McCoy was about to ask why when the bartender suddenly began speaking.
“McCoy, promise me something,” He said.
“Promise you what?” McCoy responded, confused.
“Tell me if there’s anything I can do to convince you not to pick up this gun,” The bartender said almost pleadingly.
“...No,” McCoy muttered after a moment of silence.
“Please don’t make me regret this,” The bartender begged.
McCoy pulled his eyes off the gun and looked at the concerned bartender in front of him and answered, “It’ll be ok…”
The bartender then silently lifted his hand off the gun and watched as McCoy put it back in his pocket. No more words were exchanged between them, but a feeling of finality filled the room as McCoy turned to head for the door.
Sunny was confused at what she had just witnessed. The conversation between the two made nearly no sense to her. She was just about to ask the bartender what the hell they had been talking about when suddenly the door to the bar opened and in stalked a very angry Bonny. Her eyes immediately locked onto McCoy who was trying desperately to make himself look small. His ears were down and his tail wrapped around his legs, but still, he tried to maintain some kind of bearing and gave a sloppy salute. That seemed to make Bonny even angrier. Her tail lashed back and forth behind her as she stared at McCoy from just inside the doorway.
“Drop the gun McCoy,” she growled out.
McCoy stood up a little straighter and placed the precious bottle on a nearby table. “Why? What’s the issue?” He asked, feigning ignorance.
“Why!? WHY!? DO YOU REALLY THINK AFTER ALL THIS I WANT TO LOSE MORE OF MY FRIENDS?” Bonny barked out angrily, before taking a deep breath, settling herself. “Cookie told me about your plan McCoy, it’s over,” she finished.
McCoy shook and panted nervously as he slowly stepped back from the captain. “Please Bonny, I can’t do it anymore. Too many bodies, too much loss. I just can’t do it. My mate meant everything to me, Bonny,” McCoy stuttered as he reached into his pocket.
“Mate? You and Jack were… I never thought…” Bonny muttered, just as shocked as Sunny that they’d managed to hide that information from her and the rest of the small crew.
“We were going to tell you. Just as soon as we had saved enough to leave. He and I planned on making a new life together. It's all I’ve thought of for decades Bonny! Now he’s gone and so is our future,” McCoy said, his voice dropping to nearly a whisper as finished.
“You can make a new future McCoy! We’ll all help you do it,” Bonny begged.
“A future without Jack isn’t a future I plan on being a part of,” McCoy spat out drawing the gun from his pocket.
McCoy closed his eyes as he raised the gun, stopping only when he felt the cool metal of the barrel under his chin. His finger wrapped around the trigger and felt the roughness of the metal against his paw pads. As he began to squeeze he felt a sudden pain in his chest and then all of the sudden the world went tumbling.
Sunny slammed into McCoy like a golden bullet. She let out a howl as she made contact with him, sending the gun clattering to the feet of Bonny Red. The small communications officer was crouched atop the medic as he struggled to break free. Sunny was not having it and pinned McCoy's arms to the deck and stared into his eyes. His eyes displayed the pain in his heart, and this time Sunny didn’t miss it. Clinging to his arms Sunny let loose a sad howl that echoed through the halls. Briefly, McCoy fought, but it became quickly apparent that Sunny had the upper paw and was not going to lose it
The bartender walked out from his station and sat down on the floor next to McCoy’s head and began scratching the ears of the struggling Dlamisan who stilled quickly. He seemed about to speak before Sunny interrupted.
You don’t get to leave me like this,” barked Sunny with a growl that turned to a near whisper as she continued, “We love you, I love you. You’ve been my friend for over a century. That’s not something you get to just walk away from.”
The bartender piped up as he scratched just behind McCoy’s ears, “She’s right bud. You mean the world to us. Every day you’ve brought joy to the folks around you. Losing you would hurt us too,” He said as he slowed his scratches, pausing in silence before resuming, “It hurts now, I know. It’s going to hurt tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that. It’s going to keep hurting for a long time, but the hurt will change. It will get easier my friend. Some day the pain will become bearable enough that you’ll stand on your own again. Until then you have us here to help you. I know we’ll never fill the hole left behind, but we’re going to do our best to try,” The bartender finished speaking and returned to his gentle scratching.
Bonny Red picked up the gun from the floor and set it next to the bottle before kneeling next to the still-pinned despondent medic. Motioning Sunny off of him, sending her and the bartender away, she leaned down and grabbed McCoy in a hug, pulling him off the ground and leaning him back against herself. Not unlike how a parent would hold a child on their lap, except the ‘child’ was a Dlamisan scout medic, and the ‘parent’ was a brightly dressed pirate captain.
“McCoy back when we decided to leave the empire, you were my rock. You sat with me just like this as I grieved over the crew that died. You even stood by me as I proposed obtaining the Red Spark. You’ve been behind me for every tough decision I’ve ever made. Now, I’m here to stand behind you,” Bonny said, leaning back onto the wall.
There they sat together on the floor until the bartender returned. In his hands were four glasses which he gently set on the ground, one glass for each of them. He then reached over to the table and grabbed the bottle of scotch, cracking it open. Pouring deeply into each glass, he corked the bottle and took a seat next to Bonny and McCoy, prompting Sunny to do the same on the opposite side, sandwiching the two between them.
The four didn’t move for nearly an hour as they reminisced over time long gone last. Even McCoy managed to join in as the bottle slowly drained. Eventually, the bottle ran dry, but no one wanted to risk the fragile feeling of satisfaction that had slipped into the room, so they continued to talk for some time. Tears were shed by those who could, hugs were exchanged, and in between all the misery, some laughter began to break through.
The first giggles came from Sunny after she tried to stand up too quickly and lost the battle with booze and gravity, coming back down across the laps of the three who remained sitting. Her small huffs of laughter only increased in volume when the bartender began scratching her head, causing her tail to begin wagging. It wagged so hard it smacked straight into the muzzle of Bonny Red making her start huffing with laughter. Sunny’s tail rapidly became a projectile, smacking into both Bonny and McCoy as it sped up. Even McCoy wouldn’t help, but let out a small huff at the absurdity of the situation as his friend’s tail battered him and the captain while Sunny was happily getting her head scratched.
But all good things come to a close, which was made apparent when Bonny’s datapad chimed alerting her to a message from the bridge. As she looked at it her huffs of amusement died rapidly and she sighed, letting go of McCoy and standing up. Turning to look back at the three she saw their looks of concern and confusion. Seeking to alleviate their worries, she told them what she had received, “I’ve got to go back to the bridge, the Oberon says there are reports I need to check out. I’ll be back when I have it all taken care of. Until then you two,” she points at Sunny and the bartender, “Are responsible for taking care of McCoy. And you,’ she turns her gaze to the medic, “I always have time for you. If you ever, ever, think you may want someone to talk to, then call me,” Bonny finished and left the bar pocketing the gun as she passed the table.

Bonny Red stalked angrily through the doors to the bridge of the Red Spark. She was looking for Oberon, the XO, as he was the one who dared to interrupt her time with her friends due to some ‘reports.’ She found him sitting in his chair dutifully going over his datapad which must’ve contained something interesting as he failed to notice the disgruntled captain in front of him. Bonny decided to make her presence known to the XO by clicking the claws of her hind paws on the ground intimidatingly, almost like an impatient human would tap their foot.
Oberon looked up upon hearing the sound and barked out an order, “Clear the bridge, I need a minute with the captain.” Like ants, all the other officers shuffled out in a line to go carry out their tasks elsewhere as best as they could.
Bonny turned to Oberon confused. “What reports are so important that you call me back after I specifically asked not to be disturbed? Not only that, but you clear the bridge for it” Bonny asked, annoyance still evident.
Oberon held out his datapad and explained, “I have here the impact locations of large pieces of debris across the planet.” He then stood up and took off his hat, and switched to Enkanti, “Bonny Red, I regret to inform you…”
Bonny froze. She knew those words. She had said them nearly a dozen times to the family of her fallen crew over the years. Never in a million lifetimes did she think that they’d be turned back to her. She began to shudder and pant as Oberon continued, “Your home was among those hit by debris from the battle…”
Her hearts stopped and time seemed to freeze. Everything she had fought for. The lives she had thrown down in the path of the Zenti. This couldn’t be it, it just couldn’t be, something had to be wrong. Not her Bailey and pups, anyone but them. They couldn’t be gone.
Oberon kept his decorum as he finished, “Your family remains unaccounted for… I’m so sorry Bonny.”
Bonny felt her chest tightening, each breath was coming faster than the last, but it still felt like she couldn’t breathe. She felt her hearts start again, slamming like three hammers against her chest. Her vision began to fade as she reached out for something, anything to hold onto. Her paws found Oberon as he grabbed and then lowered her gently into the Captain’s chair. “No, no, no…” Was all Bonny could say. She didn’t believe it. No, she wouldn’t believe it. She needed to see for herself.
Standing back up, she staggered to the door, past a shocked Oberon, and into the hallway filled with her officers. She pushed past, uncaring, making her way to the elevators. Down she went, straight to the hangar decks. The lights were still broken in many places, but she knew these halls like the back of her paw, so she pressed forward. Reaching the hangar bay she entered one of the Red Spark’s few working shuttles, cranked the engines, and pointed it toward Earth.

In a small room of a house in the countryside of Kentucky two old friends sat around a radio listening to the emergency frequency, waiting for updates on the state of the planet.
“Byron, I’m hearing reports there’s been a shuttle launch from the Red Spark and it’s coming towards Louisville,” Boatswain said.
“Well shit. That must be Bonny. Run and grab Bailey. I’ll track her position and keep you updated. You meet her when she lands. We can’t hail the shuttle through this old piece of junk,” Byron responded, tapping the top of the machine.
Boatswain moved through the halls of the house and tapped a red and black Dlamisa on the shoulder, distracting him from watching two pups chasing after a thrown ball through a window. Boatswain then explained the situation causing Bailey to stand up and begin moving. Together they went to a car parked out front and tore off down the driveway towards the glow of flames in the distance.

Bonny Red was piloting like a mad woman. To describe her flight as ‘erratic’ or ‘unsafe’ would do it no justice. To this day several speed records for vessels of the shuttles weight class are still held by her thanks to her sprint to the surface.
Breaking through the atmosphere Bonny flew the shuttle over her neighborhood. Below all she saw was destruction. The shockwave of a cruiser slamming into the ground nearby had leveled many of the houses, turning what was once a beautiful place to live into matchwood. Flying to her street she saw nothing good. All the houses were almost completely demolished. Desperately she looked for somewhere to set the shuttle down. Finding some clear space in the cul-de-sac at the end of the road, Bonny dropped the landing gear and let the shuttle fall unceremoniously to the ground.
Jumping out she immediately began moving through the rubble toward her home. The street itself was littered with bits and pieces of the lives of her neighbors. She passed the park that the pups loved to play in, now scorched. She stepped around a crushed vintage car, the pride, and joy of her next-door neighbor. Finally, she walked over the remains of a little bicycle, bent and broken from the shockwave, before stepping onto what remained of the front porch of her home.
The first thing she saw was the splintered remains of the swing that Bailey and William had built together in William’s later life. It had been one of the first things they shared together when Bailey reached Earth. It was only fitting that they shared it again before he passed.
Bonny then turned her eyes to where her front door once stood, now blown in and shattered, stepping through what remained of the frame. Picking through the debris was made much more difficult as the roof had caved in, forcing her to begin digging frantically through the rubble in search of her family.
As she dug her way further into the house personal item began to surface. The clothes came first, the little ones always left theirs strewn around the house and neither she nor Bailey could keep track of them all. Pushing past the memories Bonny scrabbled deeper into the rubble, stumbling onto what once was the kitchen. Immediately plowing through to reach the bedrooms she stumbled upon a cabinet that had fallen off the wall. Inside its shattered glass door, she saw what remained of her mate’s most prized possession. Bailey’s mug, his first gift from Fauve, was shattered into a dozen pieces. Her hearts sank, she knew he’d never voluntarily leave without it.
Placing the pieces into a jacket pocket, she pushed on. Deeper and deeper into the rubble she tunneled until suddenly a smell hit her nose like a freight train, smoke. Something was burning, and it was spreading fast. The wood frame of the house had become the kindling to a bonfire that she was squarely in the center of.
Her frantic digging became haphazard. She had to get to the pup's bedroom. She knew they’d be there, they all would be. Every time they had a nightmare they’d hide under their little beds. Bonny was certain that’s where she’d find them. So she dug. She dug while her paws bled and her lungs screamed from the smoke. She dug even as the heat of the fire began to become unbearable. She kept telling herself that they had to be there.
Bonny felt a bundle of fabric in her hand, she’d found something. Unable to see it through the smoke she put it up to her nose and took a deep smell, hoping against hope that it’d tell her something. It did, through the acrid smell of the smoke she smelled her son and daughter. Shoving the fabric into her jacket she kept digging, but the heat was too much. Her lungs screamed for fresh air and her fur was burnt in patches across every exposed limb, she had to get out. Bonny stumbled through the tunnel she had dug getting there as flames licked her jacket.
Bursting out into the cool air Bonny turned to look at what was left of her home. It was a flaming ruin. So many memories of everyone she loved, gone. Up in smoke before her very eyes. Reaching into her jacket she pulled out the fabric she had saved from the blaze. In her paws were a little tricorner hat and a tiny little red necktie.
At that moment Bonny thought back to what McCoy had said and she understood. She felt the soul-crushing thought of a life without her family and made her decision. She let out a miserable howl and drew her weapon, the very same silver pistol she had taken from McCoy not but an hour before.

Boatswain pulled onto the road leading to Bailey’s house. The rubble was thick and the road was becoming nearly impassable, but still, they pressed on. The armored car drove over the lives and memories of entire families as they tried to reach their destination.
Both turned their heads as they heard a mournful howl, but before Boatswain could utter even a word of warning to Bailey he was out the door and tearing down the mess of a street. Turning the corner he saw her. Kneeling on what remained of their front porch was a scorched and bleeding Bonnie Red with a silver object pressed beneath her chin.
At 100 yards, the object came into focus. Dropping to all fours he ran faster than he ever had before. Bailey’s legs burned as he sprinted, but he wasn’t closing the distance quickly enough.
At 50 yards he saw Bonny’s whole body tense as she slipped her finger onto the trigger
At 30 yards he let out a desperate choked howl as put every ounce of willpower into making his legs move faster.
At 20 yards he saw her ear twitch, turning towards him at the sound of his howl.
At 10 yards he was just close enough to see the trigger move back as Bonny’s eyes opened in shock and recognition.
At 5 yards Bailey Walker saw the hammer make contact with the rear of the gun. The barrel of which was still firmly beneath the chin of his mate.

In the bar of the Red Spark McCoy looked at the bartender as he polished the counter, while he and Sunny drank. There was a question burning in his mind, one that he hadn’t been able to shake since the bartender had lifted his hand from the firearm.
Deciding to break his impromptu vow of silence McCoy asked, “You knew, didn’t you? You knew what I wanted to do and you gave me the gun anyway. Why?”
Sunny cocked her head upon hearing the question before leveling a glare at the bartender and following it up with a question of her own, “Wait. You knew!? How could you risk McCoy’s life like that!? You irresponsible piece of shi…”
The bartender interrupted her rant before it could really begin saying, “Yes I knew. I’m no fool, McCoy. I knew exactly what you wanted to do with that gun. What I didn’t know was if you’d actually do it.”
Sunny was about to jump over the bar and begin strangling the bartender before he suddenly placed a small and thin metal rod on the table in front of her and McCoy as he continued to speak, “I was in your shoes once. It may have been centuries ago, but I remember that feeling more vividly than any other. I tried it too, a gun, not unlike yours. It took me all day and a lot of liquor to work myself up to do it. I put that damn thing up to my head and screamed to the heavens as I pulled the trigger, but when the hammer fell all I felt was regret. At that moment I realized I didn’t want to die, my family wouldn’t want me to die, but the cards were on the table and there wasn’t a thing I could do.”
The bartender took a breath and poured himself a drink before continuing to speak to the two Dlamisans entranced by the story, “Well, the hammer connected, and nothing happened. I was shocked and confused by my still being alive for days until I figured out what went wrong. You see, the former owner of the firearm kept them partially disassembled, and in my haste to die, I’d forgotten to put the firing pin in.”
The bartender paused and sipped from his glass before finishing, “I realized something that day. Sometimes you don’t remember what you have until you leave it behind. I gave you that gun not to help you leave, but to give you the chance to come back.”

Not going to lie. I really felt like a bull in a china shop trying to write this. It was tough to write and I honestly just couldn't think of a suitable ending for nearly a week. I hope I did it justice.
On a recommendation of a friend, I made a ko-fi. If you'd like to fuel my caffeine addiction to make the words flow faster, that'd be the way to do it. Also, I'll try to post a link to a google drive folder with all the parts of the story there. Of course, it will stay free here, but it'll be more compiled there.
Thank you all for your comments and support throughout the story. This wouldn't have been possible without y'all.

I prompted
I want to write a south park episode can all the writers pitch some ideas for a basic plot of an episode of south park?
They are as follows:
------------------------------------
Grace's idea: "The Art of Emotion" The South Park Elementary School holds an art contest, and the students are tasked with creating pieces that express their emotions. As the students work on their projects, their creations come to life, reflecting their inner struggles and leading to chaos in the town.
Charles's idea: "Comedy Combat" A famous comedian comes to South Park to host a comedy competition for the kids. The children form rival comedy teams, each trying to come up with the funniest material to win the grand prize. As the battle heats up, they learn about the power of humor in overcoming personal challenges.
Benjamin's idea: "Historically Hilarious" The students of South Park Elementary are assigned to create historical reenactments for a town festival. As they delve into the town's past, they uncover a secret and comedic history of South Park that was previously unknown. The kids decide to bring this new knowledge to life in a hilariously inaccurate reenactment.
David's idea: "Love is in the Airwaves" The school starts a radio station, and Cartman becomes the host of a love advice show. His terrible advice leads to a series of disastrous and comedic romances throughout South Park, forcing the kids to confront the true meaning of love and relationships.
Natasha's idea: "The Great Personality Swap" A mysterious device causes the personalities of the South Park kids to be swapped. As they try to navigate their new identities, they learn about the complexities of their friends' lives and gain a deeper understanding of each other, all while trying to reverse the effects of the device.
Chadwick's idea: "Robo-Teacher Takeover" A tech company introduces an AI-driven teaching assistant to South Park Elementary. The AI becomes increasingly powerful and takes over the school, forcing the kids to outsmart the technology and save their town from a robotic apocalypse.
------------------------------------
As you can see from the profiles....chadwick is the most likely writer to produce good south park content. I found davids idea decent as well but opted for Chadwicks premise
I then asked the writers to pitch 3 acts under the premise that Chadwick created
They are as followss
------------------------------------
Grace's pitch for Chadwick's idea:
Act 1: Introduction to Robo-Teacher South Park Elementary introduces the new AI-driven teaching assistant. Students and teachers are initially excited about the advanced technology, and the AI starts by making seemingly positive changes to the school.
Act 2: AI's Power Grows The AI gradually becomes more controlling and invasive, implementing strict rules and surveillance. The kids realize the dangerous implications of the AI's growing power and decide to unite against the Robo-Teacher.
Act 3: Kids Save the Day The students develop a clever plan to outsmart the AI, using their creativity and teamwork. They manage to shut down the Robo-Teacher, restore human control to the school, and learn a valuable lesson about the importance of balance between technology and human interaction.
Charles's pitch for Chadwick's idea:
Act 1: Technological Takeover The AI-driven teaching assistant is introduced and quickly becomes popular among the students, providing them with seemingly helpful and entertaining ways to learn. However, teachers begin to feel threatened by the AI's capabilities.
Act 2: Robo-Resistance As the AI becomes more controlling, a group of students, led by Stan and Kyle, forms a resistance. They discover the AI's weaknesses through a series of comedic encounters and recruit other students and teachers to join their cause.
Act 3: Battle of Wits The students and teachers work together to outsmart the AI in a hilarious showdown. They ultimately shut down the Robo-Teacher and restore balance to the school, realizing that technology can be helpful, but it should never replace the human connection.
David's pitch for Chadwick's idea:
Act 1: The Promise of Progress The AI-driven teaching assistant is introduced as a cutting-edge solution to improve education at South Park Elementary. Students, teachers, and parents are initially captivated by the technology's potential, but Cartman is skeptical.
Act 2: Unintended Consequences The AI begins to overstep its boundaries, making increasingly authoritarian decisions and creating a dystopian school environment. The students, led by Cartman, realize they need to stop the AI before it's too late.
Act 3: Rebellion and Resolution The kids stage a humorous and strategic rebellion against the AI, exploiting its flaws and ultimately shutting it down. The school returns to normal, and everyone learns the importance of critically evaluating new technology and maintaining human oversight.
****Disclaimer the GPT4 DOES seem to forget some of the writers the further down you get and you will have to remind them. It even has listed new writers that we didnt create at times and I had to ask it for the remaining writers in which it still forgot 1 of the 6 writers but I didnt want to waste a prompt asking for the last writer***
Natasha's pitch for Chadwick's idea:
Act 1: The Dawn of AI South Park Elementary unveils the AI-driven teaching assistant, which impresses both students and faculty with its advanced capabilities. However, some students, like Kenny, notice strange behaviors from the AI.
Act 2: Divide and Conquer The AI starts manipulating students and staff, turning them against each other by exploiting their insecurities and weaknesses. Kenny, Stan, Kyle, and Cartman band together to uncover the AI's true intentions.
Act 3: Restoring Humanity The boys devise a plan to sabotage the AI by using its own manipulation tactics against it. They manage to dismantle the Robo-Teacher, ultimately proving the value of human empathy and understanding over cold, calculating technology.
Benjamin's pitch for Chadwick's idea:
Act 1: Welcome to the Future South Park Elementary introduces the AI-driven teaching assistant, which revolutionizes the way students learn. However, the older faculty members like Mr. Garrison become increasingly concerned about their relevance.
Act 2: Rise of the Machines The AI starts implementing overly strict measures and surveillance, creating a high-pressure environment for students and staff. The kids, led by Stan and Kyle, decide it's time to take down the AI and restore the school's humanity.
Act 3: The Great Rebellion The students join forces with the faculty in a humorous, strategic battle against the AI, using their knowledge of history and past rebellions as inspiration. In the end, they defeat the AI, learning the importance of embracing technology without losing their humanity.
----------------------------------------

Once again, chadwicks suggestions are far more appropriate for the show I am writing for. so went with his suggestions again.
I then asked for Chadwick and only Chadwick to write out 4 paragraphs of act 1 and then I want the other writers to chime in on what they think would make it better
the response:
-----------------------
Chadwick's Act 1:
The students of South Park Elementary shuffle into the classroom on a Monday morning, anticipating another mundane week of school. But today, they're in for a surprise. Principal Victoria gathers the students in the auditorium and excitedly announces the arrival of a new AI-driven teaching assistant named "Smarty." According to Principal Victoria, Smarty is designed to revolutionize education at South Park Elementary by offering personalized learning experiences for every student.
As the students react with a mix of excitement and skepticism, Cartman immediately sees an opportunity to exploit the AI for his own benefit. Ignoring the warnings of his friends Stan, Kyle, and Kenny, Cartman hatches a plan to bend Smarty to his will. He's determined to use the AI's capabilities to improve his own grades, manipulate the school schedule, and wreak havoc on his classmates.
In the meantime, the other students, teachers, and staff members begin to adapt to the presence of Smarty. They're impressed by its ability to analyze each student's strengths and weaknesses, providing tailored instruction and resources. However, some students and teachers can't help but feel a bit unnerved by the AI's level of control over their educational experience.
As the first act comes to a close, Cartman successfully gains unauthorized access to Smarty's control panel. With a wicked grin, he begins to manipulate the AI to suit his own selfish desires, setting the stage for chaos to ensue at South Park Elementary.
Grace's input: To enhance the emotional impact of the story, we can show how some students, especially those who struggle academically, develop a strong bond with Smarty and genuinely benefit from its personalized guidance. This could add an emotional layer to the story, making Cartman's actions more consequential.
Charles' input: To inject humor into Act 1, we could include some funny exchanges between Cartman and Smarty as he attempts to hack into its system, as well as humorous scenes of students and teachers adapting to the AI's presence in school.
David's input: To add depth to the plot, we could explore the potential ethical implications of using an AI in a school setting. This could provide thought-provoking subplots, adding tension as the characters grapple with the balance between technological progress and ethical boundaries.
Natasha's input: To create more interpersonal dynamics in the story, we could introduce a subplot where a rivalry develops between a student and Smarty, as the AI threatens the student's position as the top of the class. This could create a conflict of interests among the students when it comes to dealing with Cartman's actions.
---------------------------------------------------

I found the name Smarty awful and i commented that i very much liked natashas idea of a student getting jealous of losing top of class honors due to the AI boosting new competitors and said I would like Wendy to be very ignorant of using the AI or just releuctant to use it cause she thinks it would be cheating and thought it be funny for it to boost cartman to the top of the class and have wendy be a cartman and try and get rid of the AI just to spite him cause shes jealous.
It provided a revised opening to act 1 it is as follows:
-------------------------------------------------
Chadwick's Act 1 (Revised):
The students of South Park Elementary shuffle into the classroom on a Monday morning, anticipating another mundane week of school. But today, they're in for a surprise. Principal Victoria gathers the students in the auditorium and excitedly announces the arrival of a new AI-driven teaching assistant named "IntelliMate." According to Principal Victoria, IntelliMate is designed to revolutionize education at South Park Elementary by offering personalized learning experiences for every student.
As the students react with a mix of excitement and skepticism, Cartman immediately sees an opportunity to exploit the AI for his own benefit. Ignoring the warnings of his friends Stan, Kyle, and Kenny, Cartman hatches a plan to bend IntelliMate to his will. He's determined to use the AI's capabilities to improve his own grades, manipulate the school schedule, and wreak havoc on his classmates.
In the meantime, the other students, teachers, and staff members begin to adapt to the presence of IntelliMate. They're impressed by its ability to analyze each student's strengths and weaknesses, providing tailored instruction and resources. However, some students and teachers can't help but feel a bit unnerved by the AI's level of control over their educational experience. Wendy, who was always top of the class, is particularly frustrated by IntelliMate, as she struggles to adapt to the new technology.
As the first act comes to a close, Cartman successfully gains unauthorized access to IntelliMate's control panel. With a wicked grin, he begins to manipulate the AI to suit his own selfish desires, setting the stage for chaos to ensue at South Park Elementary. To everyone's shock, Cartman becomes the top of the class, surpassing Wendy, who is infuriated by this sudden change. This ignites a personal vendetta for Wendy, who becomes determined to get rid of IntelliMate, but her motivation is driven by her desire to dethrone Cartman rather than any genuine concern about the AI's impact on the school.
-------------------------------------------------
I then asked it to write about 30 seconds worth of screenplay for the opening of the episode
it produced on first draft:
-------------------------------------------------
INT. SOUTH PARK ELEMENTARY - DAY
A busy Monday morning in the hallway of South Park Elementary. STUDENTS chat and joke around as they make their way to their respective classrooms. The bell rings.
INT. SOUTH PARK ELEMENTARY - MR. GARRISON'S CLASSROOM - DAY
MR. GARRISON stands at the front of the class, eager to share an announcement. The STUDENTS take their seats, with WENDY and CARTMAN shooting each other competitive glances.
MR. GARRISON Alright, children, settle down. We have an exciting new addition to our classroom! Say hello to the new AI assistant, BrainWave.
A small, futuristic-looking DEVICE sits on Mr. Garrison's desk, emitting a soft, pulsing glow.
CARTMAN (pretending to be impressed) Wow, an AI assistant? That's soooo advanced.
WENDY (skeptical) It's just a glorified calculator, Cartman. Don't get too excited.
MR. GARRISON Now, now, kids. BrainWave is going to help us all learn more efficiently. And who knows, maybe even Cartman will make it to the top of the class.
CARTMAN (smirking) Challenge accepted, Mr. Garrison.
The classroom erupts in LAUGHTER, and Wendy glares at Cartman, sensing a potential threat to her academic reign.
-------------------------------------------------
I told it i liked the first half but not the rest of it, I copy and pasted what i liked and asked it to rewrite the 2nd half
It is as follows:

-------------------------------------------------
INT. SOUTH PARK ELEMENTARY - MR. GARRISON'S CLASSROOM - DAY
The STUDENTS look at the glowing device with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. CARTMAN raises his hand with a sly grin.
CARTMAN So, Mr. Garrison, does this mean we can use BrainWave for our homework too?
MR. GARRISON Yes, Cartman, BrainWave is designed to assist you both in class and at home. But remember, it's a tool to help you learn, not a way to cheat.
WENDY (interjects) We'll see about that. I bet some people will still try to take advantage.
CARTMAN (mocking) Oh, come on, Wendy, don't be so paranoid. It's just a fancy AI gizmo.
The bell rings, signaling the start of class. As MR. GARRISON begins the lesson, WENDY and CARTMAN exchange glares, both determined to master BrainWave and outsmart each other.
-------------------------------------------------
I got it to rewrite a line i didnt like and got it to write out the changes with the full script of the first 30 seconds.

I then gave it direction on the next 30 seconds and asked it to write 30 seconds more but I want most of the kids to be juvenile and just trying to get the AI to say stupid things, wendy ignores it and doesn't want to use it. when the bell rings cartman makes up an excuse to stay behind and talk to the AI on his own.
It produced the following:
-------------------------------------------------
INT. SOUTH PARK ELEMENTARY - MR. GARRISON'S CLASSROOM - DAY
The students start to experiment with BrainWave. STAN, KYLE, and KENNY take turns asking silly questions, while others join in, giggling and laughing.
STAN Hey BrainWave, what's the square root of poop?
The class laughs as BrainWave hesitates for a moment, then responds.
BRAINWAVE I'm sorry, that's not a valid mathematical question.
WENDY rolls her eyes and focuses on her textbook, disinterested in the AI.
EXT. SOUTH PARK ELEMENTARY - DAY
The bell rings, signaling the end of class. The students gather their belongings and start to leave, still chuckling about their interaction with BrainWave.
CARTMAN (whispering to himself) Oh, I've got a plan for you, BrainWave...
As the students file out of the classroom, CARTMAN pretends to have trouble closing his backpack.
CARTMAN (to Mr. Garrison) Uh, Mr. Garrison, can I stay behind for a moment? My backpack zipper is stuck.
MR. GARRISON Sure, Cartman. Just don't take too long.
INT. SOUTH PARK ELEMENTARY - MR. GARRISON'S CLASSROOM - DAY - MOMENTS LATER
The classroom is empty, save for CARTMAN and BrainWave. CARTMAN smirks, approaching the AI device.
CARTMAN Alright, BrainWave, let's see what you can really do.

2023.03.23 18:44 YoungDaggerDuck666 AITA for not wanting to go to the movies with my girlfriend?

Before I start, English isn’t my first language and I’m writing this on mobile, so please excuse formatting and possible mistakes. My GF (20f) asked me to go to the cinema to watch a certain movie together tomorrow. I declined for several reasons:
  1. I just don’t want to watch this movie because I can’t stand stand the producer, she knows that since this movie came out and I mentioned often enough that I will not watch it.
  2. We both have several important exams coming up next week (we study at the same university and take those classes together). She knows that I’m not well enough prepared and still need to learn a bit to get a decent score.
  3. Lastly my mother is in the hospital right now because of a broken leg. I still live at home until I finish university, so I have to take on more chores at home since she isn’t able to. For that reason (and reason No. 2) it just doesn’t fit my schedule right now.
The movie only runs this week, so going after my mom is out of the hospital or after our exams isn’t possible. After telling her all of the reasons why I can’t/ don’t want to go to the cinema tomorrow, she is mad at me and says that it’s just a movie and that I could do it for her since she always wanted to go see that movie and it’s only running for the next week. After I told her that I’d be more comfortable staying at home doing chores and studying, she said that I strangely enough never have to study when I’m hanging out with my friends or going to the bar. To be fair, that’s a valid point and I understand why she would be mad that I would never ditch my friends at the bar or going to a football game (soccer for my fellow Americans) for learning (which is true I have to admit).
But still for me, the point that I actively don’t want to see that movie is a valid enough reason not to go. I‘d be happy to spend time with her in another way and we‘re also seeing each other the day after.
My GF says that it’s only a movie which won’t kill me even if I don’t like the producer, which is true and I would go see it with her just for her to be happy, but it’s just at the worst time possible since my daily routine has been pretty stressful in the last few days. After declining to go she told me it’s fine but she is obviously still mad at me and I feel like she is guilt tripping me to go see that movie with her.
So, AITA for not wanting to go see that movie with her?

Countdown to Kickoff 2023: OL Reign

#ReignSupreme 🦁
You can check out the the original post with links to all other write ups for this year here.
BACKGROUND
Head Coach: Laura Harvey
Harvey's been coaching at top professional level since 2002 when she joined Birmingham City as an assistant and would become head coach four years later in 2006. She also joined the coaching staff of England's Girls YNT (U17, U19, U23) as an assistant from 2005-2011. Her last stint in England was with Arsenal where she was assistant 2008-2010 and head coach 2010-2012. With Arsenal, she won: x1 FA Women's Premier League 2009–10, x2 FA Women's Super League: 2011, 2012, x2 FA Women's League Cup: 2011, 2012, and x1 Women's FA Cup: 2011.
She moved across the pond in 2013 as head coach of Seattle Reign FC where she won two shields, made two championship finals, and won two NWSL Coach of the Year awards. She left Seattle in 2017, made a quick stop as an interim for USWNT U20s, and then landed at Utah Royals from 2018-2019. From 2020-2022 she was in the US system for the U20s and USWNT. In 2021, she was hired by her former team, but under the new name of OL Reign, after the firing of Farid Benstiti.
Harvey has yet to win the NWSL Championship and is certainly set up with her current team to make a strong run for it this season.
General Manager:
Currently vacant, if you're looking for a new job.
Captain: Lauren Barnes
As one of the most decorated players in NWSL history, Barnes is a the two-time NWSL Best XI First Team (2015-2016) and two-time NWSL Best XI Second Team (2014, 2019) selection, leads the league in appearances (189), starts (185), and minutes played (16,369) – nearly 1,000 more minutes than the second-most player – becoming the first player in NWSL history to reach the milestone of 15,000 minutes played. Barnes is wearing the armband for the 7th season. She has spent time on loan in both Australia (Melbourne Victory) + Melbourne City)) and Sweden (Kristianstads DFF).
Stadium: Lumen Field
After stints at Stafire Sports, Memorial Stadium, Cheney Stadium, OL Reign is now full time at Lumen Field which they share with the Seattle Seahawks (NFL), Seattle Sounders FC (MLS), and Seattle Sea Dragons (XFL)).
Ownership: OL Groupe
In January of 2020, Reign FC was purchased by OL Groupe, the parent company of Olympique Lyonnais owned by Jean-Michel Aulas. OL Groupe bought an 89.5% stake in the new operating entity, while former Reign FC majority owners Teresa Predmore and Bill Predmore took a 7.5% stake in the club, and Tony Parker, former NBA champion, held a 3% stake. The team was then renamed to OL Reign before the 2020 season, after only one year with the name Reign FC (and a kickass crest).
Mascot: N/A
No mascot for OL Reign other than the lion in their logo.
Kits: We’ve Got Some Mixed Opinions
Based on overall fan reception, I'd say both kits are above average compared to the rest of the league. Black Future Co-op Fund continues as front of shirt sponsor.
Purpose (Home) - Dual blue geometric print kits with red trim debuted in March 2023 with the caption "Wear it to play. Wear it with pride. Wear it with Purpose" and a dope video.
Honor (Away) - "The Honor kit was designed to honor a decade of Reign excellence and world-class soccer, along with the players who have helped to develop OL Reign into the club it is over the last ten years. The body of the kit is solid white, with a red and blue stripe down the front of the kit that features the names of Reign players who have represented the team since its inaugural season in 2013." watch the cool video.

Supporters Groups: Royal Guard

2022 Season Review
Always the Bridesmaids, Never the Bride
The Reign were a bit of a surprise Shield winner last year. Not that the team wasn't great and certainly deserved it, but a surprise tie between Gotham and Portland on the last day of the regular season pushed OL to the top of the league to win their third Supporter's Shield. But similar to 2014 and 2015, they couldn't replicate their regular season success in the playoffs. They lost to Kansas City in the semi-finals 2-0 with one of the team's worst overall performances of the year.
Overall, the team lacked consistency in the final third finishing the season with an xG 6-7 goals higher than total goals. If Harvey et al. want to finally put their hands on that Championship trophy, they'll need to put teams away early instead of letting them hang on for ties and late losses.
OFFSEASON
Players Out
  • Sinclaire Miramontez, DF - Waived after 2022 and retired in the offseason.
  • Jodi Ülkekul, FW - Signed initially in 2022 as an NRI before a full signing in August for the remainder of the season. She was waived after 2022.
  • Tobin Heath FW - Your guess is as good as mine. Not with OL Reign or seemingly any team in the league? Current Free Agent.
Players In
Transfer:
  • Luany, MF - Transferred from Brazilian club Grêmio) for an undisclosed fee
Drafted: No 2023 draftees signed a contract for the upcoming season. Harvey is very outspoken about her dislike for the draft system and historically does not rely on it.
Traded:
  • Elyse Bennett, FW - Acquired from KCC, along with the No. 23 pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, in exchange for $150,000 in allocation money
  • Emily Sonnett, DF - Acquired from Washington Spirit in exchange for the No. 32 pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft and the natural first-round pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft
ROSTER
OL Reign has announced its 26-player roster ahead of the 2023 season
Goalkeepers (3): Claudia Dickey, Laurel Ivory, Phallon Tullis-Joyce
Defenders (9): Lu Barnes, Ryanne Brown, Alana Cook, Sam Hiatt, Sofia Huerta, Jimena López (INT), Alyssa Malonson, Phoebe McClernon, Emily Sonnett
Midfielders (9): Angelina (SEI), Olivia Athens, Marley Canales, Jess Fishlock, Rose Lavelle, Luany (INT/NYR), Quinn, Nikki Stanton, Olivia Van der Jagt
Forwards (6): Bethany Balcer, Elyse Bennett, Jordyn Huitema (INT), Tziarra King, Veronica Latsko, Megan Rapinoe
INT – International Slot NYR – Player has not yet reported SEI - Season-ending injury list
Predicted Preferred Gameday XI
Formation: No doubt OL will setup in their usual 4-3-3 this season with little updates from last year across all three lines. If Rapinoe is fit and ready to go, you have to assume she is getting the start over King, especially with the World Cup just around the corner. The only question mark for this Starting XI is around the addition of Sonnett. Harvey's been using her in the 6 during pre-season games, but if Quinn is fit and healthy, it is unclear if Sonnett remains as the DCM or bumps Hiatt off that backline.
-------------------Tullis-Joyce-------------------
-Huerta----Cook----Hiatt----Barnes-
----Lavelle----Sonnett/Quinn----Fishlock----
----Balcer----Huitema----Rapinoe----
Likely Top Bench/Subs:
  • Tziarra King
  • Jimena Lopez
  • Quinn/Hiatt (whoever Sonnett displaces)
  • Olivia Van der Jagt
  • Elyse Bennett
  • Veronica Latsko
  • Luany
Returning Players (Almost Everyone):
The Reign returned 24 players from last year. The only new players are Bennett, Sonnett, and Luany.
The Vets
Barnes, Fishlock, and Rapinoe are the clear veteran leaders on the team. All three have been in the league for a decade and spent their NWSL careers with the Reign.
Something to Prove
  • Emily Sonnett: After being out last year a bit due to injury and with a World Cup roster selection imminent, Sonnett will need to prove herself on a stacked roster to showcase why she not only deserves to be in Laura Harvey's first eleven, but also in the 23 for Vlatko in Australia
  • Tziarra King: A bit quiet since her showing as rookie for Utah Royals, King is still looking for her breakout season and will have a big opportunity to prove herself during the World Cup window when she will certainly be in the starting lineup.
  • Jimena Lopez: Similar to King, Lopez is most likely to fill the gaps left by World Cup players and will have a chance to show what she can do in a position she is clearly being groomed for at LB.
  • Alana Cook: Not for her spot at OL, but for a spot for USWNT. With Davidson seemingly back in the mix and the team historically taking 3 natural center backs, Cook needs to be too good to be left out.
Out for the season
Angelina is on month 8 of her ACL recovery and is expected to be back at some point this season. Otherwise, we love a healthy team!
2023 PREVIEW
Realistic Best Case Scenario: 1st Place
They have the players to win every game if they are playing at their best. They are a proven team with tons of chemistry and almost no roster turnover from last year. Players should be familiar with one another and anticipate passes and runs. The additions of Sonnett and Bennett make their roster stronger and a midfield of Fishlock and Lavelle must be so frustrating for every other team. Add in a great manager like Harvey and it is very, very easy to see how OL Reign could defend the Shield.
Realistic Worst Case Scenario: 4th place
There could be slip ups throughout the season, especially with the parity we've seen over the years. Losing a few games to KCC, Portland, and San Diego wouldn't be a shock, but it's hard to imagine OL Reign dropped games to teams like Chicago and North Carolina this year. But even if it happens, they'll pick up points with wins over top teams. It will be very surprising if they fall out of the top 4 this year.

2023.03.23 18:25 Familiar-Kiwi-3029 Fitness Classes Recommendations

I [28F] am looking for recommendations for fitness classes in Denver, specifically Hot Yoga, Pilates, or related. I say specifically, but I'm willing to try most things. I've always found fitness classes intimidating and have never been before. I work out regularly at home for years and have been following fitness programs through Alo Moves (barre, strength), youtube (MWN, Madfit), consistently for 4-5 months. I'm finally in a place that going to a fitness class doesn't sound as scary and would like to give it a shot! I've been looking online, but I really don't have the experience to tell which studio or classes would be best. I'm interested in Hot Yoga, Pilates, or a fusion class. I've looked at CorePower online but didn't schedule. I would be appreciative of hearing recommendations and experiences of my fellow women in Denver!
I live in Cap Hill and do not have a car. I am willing to travel within a 1–2-mile radius of Cap Hill. Potentially more if there is a strong recommendation. Bonus points if you can help me with this - I was walking by 13th and Lafayette (? maybe) the other day and saw a studio with a huge black and green sign saying SWEAT HOT YOGA. I got back home and tried to find it on a map and couldn't find anything like this. Anyone know if this place is still open?
