I am 21F and living with my verbally abusive narcissistic alcoholic father for the last 2 years. My mom divorced him after 15 years of trying everything under the Sun (AA, doctors, begging, crying, you name it) and finally made the decision once I turned 18. She moved to another city shortly after and I chose to stay back with my dad since I was still in college and I have 2 dogs who are my entire world and wouldn't be able to take them along if I moved into my own apartment (We live in a spacious independent house with ample space for them, hence the decision) Shitty decision, I know. I graduated and I am working right now. I will be leaving the country for my postgrad degree in around 5 months but living with him is getting increasingly difficult day by day. For context, I live with my dad and grandma (his mom) and she has Alzheimers so she has no idea what's going on half the time and she coddles him too much. We have a live-in house help as well. Stepping into the problem, here are some of the few issues I am facing :
- He goes on alcohol binges for days at a time where he locks himself in his room and drinks days away. Although, this doesn't necessarily directly affect me - it isn't a pretty sight to see when I go back home.
- He is an emotional wreck since my mom found a partner after they divorced. He is highly narcissistic and refuses to acknowledge that my mom left him because he was abusive and plays victim at all times.
- I have a boyfriend and my dad knows about him too. Me and my boyfriend are serious about each other and plan on getting married after I complete my degree abroad. My dad is overly jealous about my boyfriend and badmouths me every chance he gets.
- He gets drunk and messages my mom abusive things such as "your daughter has gone down a wrong path" etc etc (with curse words) and other very demeaning things about me and blames her for it.
- He also gets drunk and verbally abuses me i.e putting me down, demeaning me etc .
- He also calls up random people and once he called up my mom's partner and abused him as well over the phone.
- He verbally abuses me the previous night and the next morning he talks as though nothing happened and it makes me so fucking sick and angry.
My father has never been able to actively take part in my life and always been a terrible, narcissistic person. Now, he is unable to digest the fact that both me and my mom have found someone for ourselves and he is jealous about it. He is going insane and losing control over himself. He randomly picks fights, screams, cries and bothers me whenever i am outside. He calls me up and says very disgusting things asking me where I am and it shoots up my anxiety SO much. I am seeking therapy and I will be getting the fuck out of his house in 6 months but I am not able to cope. I am so tired. I am doing my best trying to take care of my dogs, my grandma and the house at 21 but I am so tired of being put down by my sad excuse for a father. A bit of background about me, I’ve never had continuity of care for my mental health, I was diagnosed bipolar (incorrectly I think) as when I got a second opinion after a stint in a crisis house, a psychiatrist said I had BPD. As I had moved around the country so much (problems at home, starting and quitting various jobs and university courses having only ever being able to stick at something for a couple of months max) the doctors don’t have my complete medical records, and I was never offered any form of treatment or therapy because waiting lists were long and by the time I reached the top of the list I was out of the area.
Fast forward 5 years I’ve done OK for myself. Luckily, I had good support at my last university and I fumbled through and got my degree. But now I’m in employment I’m finding it hard to manage my symptoms, well I say symptoms but it’s really managing my personality. I want to finally stick at something. Anyway ramble over and back to the point of the post.
I basically started a graduate job about 6 months ago. It’s an opportunity people would probably kill for. I’m really lucky, it’s an amazing company, and believe me I am somewhere deep down in my mind grateful for it. Which is why I feel so bad about how I feel. At the beginning they did all the hype, I was really proud of myself, and looking back with hindsight probably some kind of manic/over excited/inflated ego. I was enjoying it for a good 3/4 months, high energy and keen to be successful. Even though the work wasn’t exactly what I expected I still wanted to learn. But now I’m completely disillusioned and I’m switching off and that scares me. Depression is setting in, I feel that nasty part of me coming out that wants to blame everyone else and bitch and moan. I hate my job now when a few months ago I loved it. Am I destined to be this way forever? Will I ever hold down a job? Has anyone experienced the same but has found a coping mechanism? I guess I just don’t want to be alone in all this, no one really understand, but I feel you guys might?

So my daughter who is 5 months has rolled from back to belly for about a month now. She does it constantly through our the day and even during diaper changes 😬. HOWEVER, she hasn't really rolled from belly to back. And I am not 100% sure if she even knows how because I never see her even attempted it, even when she is frustrated being on her belly. When she gets tired, I will roll her onto her back and she immediately will roll back onto her belly lol.
A few times she has rolled in her sleep now and it makes me nervous that she won't be able to get off her stomach when she needs to. I am really anxious I will be sleeping when this happens and won't be able to roll her back onto her back.
I read some articles that say if they roll back to front then it's fine, but I also read articles that say they must be able to roll both ways. I am going to bring it up to her doctor at my next appointment. Just a FTM and wanted to ask other parents their experiences.

I have a job that requires accountability for your time. It’s not so bad and it’s not to the point where you can’t go to the bathroom to read Reddit and hide for a few mins.
It works for me for obvious reasons.
We have “guns” that account for our time for us. The bosses can see where we are and what we’re doing by where/what we’re scanning. Typical distribution center stuff.
Well, my new supervisor paged me today. It was his first shift being a solo supervisor in our department and the person that had been running our dept is off this week.
He wanted to know what the gaps were in my scanning- he wasn’t accusing or upset, he just wanted to know.
Cue me: rambling backstory to get to why there was this specific gap, trying to remember what I was doing 5 hours ago bc it feels like 5 years ago, talking to myself trying to backtrack my time, etc, etc, etc.
Eventually, I was just like “Look. I try REALLY hard to stay focused but there’s always going to be 5-10 mins of my day I can’t account for.” He wasn’t even asking about 5-10 mins, he was asking about 40 min gaps. (They were legit.)
I’m one of their top performers. I take every job without complaint, I’m always ready to learn new things, and I work extra hard the times I can focus to make sure I’m making up for the times I can’t. I know how to do more jobs than most, volunteer for all the committees, am cross trained in all but 2 depts, just became a trainer, and made the top tier bonus every month but 1 since I’ve been there- and that month was mid tier bonus.
He definitely wasn’t mad at me but I think I gave him a headache. We decided I’d write all my gaps down for him going forward instead of just relying on my gun. This isn’t punitive as many ppl write down their gaps instead of using their guns.
The other boss doesn’t even question me bc she understands now how I work. I’ll get him there, too.
Anyway, MY POINT IS: it doesn’t matter how much Adderall you take if you don’t get enough sleep. I struggled big time to stay on task today and I eventually figured out it’s bc I only slept 3 hours between my 12 hour shifts. I still killed it, though.
Sometimes you have to work HARDER when you can’t work smarter. If that fails, just let the ADHD fly and give your boss a headache.
But seriously, get enough sleep.
