Toyota EPS
2023.03.23 20:58 OkraOk1769 Toyota EPS
Looking for opinions on an issue with a Toyota elec. power steering system.
2010 Rav4 2.5
Issue: Steering doesn’t recentecorrect coming off a turn. It will self correct until about 20* from center, both directions. I physically have to turn the wheel back to center.
Vehicle has new strut assemblies, new sway bar links in front, new tires and has had 2 alignment’s performed. Toyota dealership was less than helpful and suggested replacing the steering column which includes the motor, torque sensor and I think the steering ECU. This is $1800 or $3200 installed. I’m not willing to pay that for a “guess” at a solution.
I am not finding much in the way of literature on these systems but am wondering if calibrating the wheel angle sensor may alleviate the issue. Not sure if the EPS even use’s information from that sensor. Ball joints and tie rods have no play in them, strut bearings move freely. I don’t suspect the rack is the issue. I’m not sure what to tear into next as far as diagnosing the cause.

2023.03.23 20:52 very_undeliverable New build to replace storage-heavy X99 gaming system. Probably a strange request.
My current PC is a dual-cpu X99 system that has seen better days and is becoming unstable. Most of what I used it for is now served by a couple of rack servers in my basement. I still have some oddments hanging around in my current system though.
First off, I have SAS card and an expander. The expander is in a PCI slot, but only uses it for power so it can be moved to a USB riser. Currently the SAS card runs 16 drives packed into my case. I'm planning on simplifying the storage footprint but, if possible, I would like to keep the SAS chain intact.
The problem I am hoping to solve is the number of PCI slots, and how that bandwidth is shared on consumer boards. I would be using the machine for work and gaming, and I don't want my graphics card to get stuck in 8x mode.
I plan on keeping this machine for many years. I was leaning towards AMD since the AM5 socket has some life left in it. I don't think this machine will survive until Arrow Lake and the new socket. Intel doesn't seem keen on releasing more LGA1700s and Metor lake is mobile only.
My crazy wish list :
Preferably I would want more than one M.2 drive to replace some of the SAS raids (8 SSDs that can now be outpaced by M.2 under most circumstances)
At least 1 PCIe 8x slot that does not share bandwidth with the graphics card.
Bonus would be a PCIe 4x slot for my NIC team. A chipset lane would be fine for this.
Bluetooth would be nice, but I can probably get a USB adapter if required. I don't need wifi.
Does anyone have any thoughts to share?

2023.03.23 20:31 madelwen Have had clothing moths for YEARS and have tried everything. Feeling hopeless…
I’m going to preface this by profusely apologizing for the really long story. Honestly, I was putting off posting or asking about this anywhere because I was afraid of sounding overly dramatic. But...this has just been my life for
so long now (literally since 2018 or 2019) and I’m absolutely miserable with seemingly no solution.
Okay….so I live in a 2 bedroom NYC apartment (building built in 2013) and have been battling an infestation of clothing moths for YEARS, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get rid of them successfully. Besides the obvious clothing destruction, these things are THE ABSOLUTE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE. They are
everywhere: in bags/backpacks/purses, in empty/open pots/jars/boxes, in cups, in the couch, in my shoes, in the lowest corners on the ground and the highest corners on the ceilings. They literally seem to survive anywhere and everywhere. I can’t think of a single place where I haven’t found something moth-related.
It’s New York City….and I have 2 cats….so understandably, the dust and fur and dirt that accumulate in this apartment is a lot, but I do my absolute best (some even call it overkill) to combat this. I vacuum
multiple times a day/sweep/clean as much as humanly possible and it still doesn’t seem like enough. The fur and dust seems to get easily trapped behind the sofa, behind the TV, in between the shoes on the shoe rack, behind paintings/wall hangings, in the small crevices of vacuums/hinges/wheels/drawers, literally any nook and cranny. And somehow, this instantly becomes a breeding ground for moths (and yes, these are all real examples of places I have found them). The rate at which these things can inhabit a small tuft of fur behind a bookshelf is astounding. And I can’t stop it. There were weeks where I basically turned cleaning my apartment into a full time job. And I definitely can’t spend every single day cleaning behind and between every object in my apartment or I would lose my mind. I feel like I already have. I’ve tried everything…traps, cedar, sprays, vinegar, an assortment of essential oils….everything (that wouldn’t also poison my cats). I washed as many of my clothes as I realistically could and have bagged any sweaters/clothing made of organic material that could potentially attract these moths (actually, I’ve vacuum bagged the marjotiy of my clothes regardless of material). The only thing I haven’t tried yet is getting a professional exterminator, but realistically speaking, between having pets and a million tight spaces/nooks and crannies (because….small cramped NYC apartment), this just doesn’t seem like a feasible solution.
When my sister moved out of the apartment in September, I took the opportunity to do a deep clean of all the closets and baseboards and shelves and cupboards. Washed every pillow/carpet/blanket – racked up a huge electricity bill with all the laundry I did in two weeks. I was actually hopeful for a bit because the number of moths I was finding had significantly died down. But now, they’ve seemed to pick back up again. I found one crawling up my arm while I was in bed. One flew into my eye the other day. I am so so sad because I had thought that I had finally managed to solve my problem.
During the 2 week September deep clean, it was truly horrifying just how many moths/eggs/larvae/maggots/casings I had found. They were living in places that made no logical sense. I am genuinely convinced that these things have somehow mutated and can survive literally everywhere, and I feel so defeated. I don’t know what to do. I want to cry. I have actual reoccurring nightmares about this. The images of stumbling upon armies of crawling maggots are seared into my memory. Short of 1. destroying everything I own, 2. getting rid of my cats in hopes that the lack of fur would stop giving them places to breed or 3. moving and replacing everything and starting a brand new life, I can’t think of anything else. I just feel completely hopeless. I do realize this entire post sounds extremely dramatic, but I have been fighting this fight for at least 4 years, and I can barely convey how upsetting this has been. I can't feel comfortable in my own home (and I'm home 99% of the day because I work from home). I don’t know who to go to or what else I can do. Any advice is greatly
greatly appreciated.

2023.03.23 19:31 TheSilverNail Ready for a bathroom refresh.... hellllllp!
OK, Cozy Minimalists, please give me your best ideas about refreshing a bathroom to look minimalist yet cozy (of course!), not dull yet not too trendy either.
My bathroom in our 100-year-old Craftsman home is currently a rectangular space 6" x 14", with a white tile floor and white wainscoting on the walls. Wall paint color above the wainscoting is currently -- gulp -- Millennial Pink. Yes, I fell for that fad. I love pink but am tired of it on the walls. Fixtures -- toilet, sink, and antique claw-foot tub -- are white, which is fine.
I'm thinking of going with a light warm beige color for the walls but I don't want the whole space to be beige & white. Currently have two towel racks that I'm not crazy about, they're shiny chrome -- maybe replace with pretty hooks instead? What color? Are black accents too trendy? Would light wood be better?
Anyway, hit me with ideas. What do you love, what are you sick of seeing, what would be your ideal bathroom? Thanks very much in advance, and happy spring!!

2023.03.23 19:19 filmfuzzies Washing Machine repair nightmare
Looking for advice on next steps to an ongoing issue with a washedryer combo I purchased from LG in April 2022. I have the machine in the kitchen and in January it started badly vibrating and shaking on high spin cycles. It shakes everything in the kitchen including the fridge and the oven. The first technician that was sent by LG was extremely rude when I told him about the issue and dismissed their being any issue at all.
I then had LG sent me another technician who discovered that there was a loose bolt in the back of the machine that needed tightening. When he tightened it the shaking got worst and he explained to me that he wasn't sure what was wrong but warned me not to use the machine because it could be DANGEROUS. I have an audio recording of him explaining that it could be a number of things including the bearing, motor or something else. This technician came back a second time and replaced more parts of the machine with his supervisor on site and there was now an even worst issue with vibration. I was told not to use the machine again due to the severity of the jumping and shaking.
I have been in conversation with a presidential liaison trying to gain clarity on this issue, but all they did was send ANOTHER "certified" technician. He did some "tests" which were similar to the first technician. He was very impatient and told me he could not find an issue with the machine, that it did not exhibit a danger and was "working normally". He also told me to record video of a normal spin cycle with some clothes to "prove there was something wrong?" Granted it seems to be spinning normally on the wash and rise cycles but the spin cycle was still vibrating a lot.
I haven't been/felt comfortable using this machine for 3 months now and I'm not really sure what the next steps would be for this, other than to possibly take legal action. I don't feel like the machine is fixed and I worried that using it is going to cause more damage. Also this machine will go out of warranty soon and I think that it still falls under the CA Lemon Law Act. Any advice on what I should do next?

2023.03.23 18:14 HoardingBotanist Cooking the States: Minnesota!
Minnesota is known for bringing us the “Juicy Lucy” or “Jucy Lucy” as it’s sometimes spelled. This burg is THE molten, stuffed burger of your dreams. If you’re a Minneapolis native, you know the story of 5-8 and Matt’s Bar, both places claim to have invented the burger sometime in the mid 1900s. Who’s is better? Well, that’s a topic for another post - we’re going to focus on making the best possible Juicy Lucy at home. Details and recipe below along with a cook-along video for the visual folks. Lmk if you have any questions - happy to help if I can.
Sesame Seed Buns - 250g Whole Milk, 105F (1 cup)
- 7g Active Dry Yeast (2 1/2 tsp)
- 40g Sugar (3 Tbsp)
- 1 Egg
- 440g Bread Flour (3 1/2 cups)
- 5.5g Kosher Salt (1 1/2 tsp)
- 42g Unsalted Butter, tempered and cubed (3 Tbsp)
- 3 Egg Yolks, for egg wash
- Splash of water, for egg wash
- Sesame Seeds, optional
- Add yeast, sugar and water to the bowl of a stand mixer and let it activate for 5 minutes. Once bubbly, add the milk, egg, and flour on top. Attach the dough hook and knead until the dough is smooth and semi-sticky, about 4 minutes.
- With the machine running, begin dropping in the butter little by little, waiting to add more until each piece is fully incorporated into the dough. Once the butter is fully worked in, add the salt and process until it's worked in and the dough passes the window test. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured work surface and shape it into a smooth ball. Line a mixing bowl with oil, plop the smooth dough ball inside, cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled or nearly doubled in size.
- Line a sheet tray with a Sil-pat mat or parchment paper. Gently turn the dough out back onto the lightly floured surface and portion the dough into 8 equal pieces. Shape the pieces into disc shaped pieces and arrange on the baking sheet.
- Mix the egg yolks and water together and lightly brush each bun with that egg wash. Let the buns rest uncovered for another hour, or until the buns are noticeably larger and puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 375F. Brush on a second layer of egg wash and sprinkle over some sesame seeds. Bake the buns for 15 minutes on the middle rack of the oven. Remove them from the oven and let cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing. The burger buns will keep in a plastic bag for 3-4 days, or in a tightly sealed bag in the freezer for 3 months. Do not refrigerate the buns short term or they’ll dry out quickly.
Caramelized Onions - 4 Yellow Onions
- 1 stick of Unsalted Butter
- Kosher Salt, to taste
Melt the butter in a large dutch oven over medium low heat. Once melted, add the onions and a generous pinch of salt. Slowly cook the onions, stirring every few minutes until the onions are deeply browned but not burned, anywhere from 30-45 minutes.
Juicy Lucy - 4 soft Burger Buns *from recipe
- 2 pounds Ground Beef (80/20)
- Cheese of choice (American, Pepperjack or Blue), torn or crumbled
- Dill Pickle, slices for serving
- Mayonnaise, for serving
- Divide the meat into half pound balls and tear the cheese up into manageable pieces. Flatten a ball of beef with your hand and place some cheese in the center. Close the ball back up ensuring that the cheese remains in the center.
- Bring a cast-iron pan up to high heat. Using a hefty spatula, press the stuffed beef ball into a thin-ish paddy. Allow the burger to cook for a couple minutes, until deeply brown and crispy, then flip and cook the other side the same way. Remove the burger from the heat and allow to drain over paper towels.
- Prepare a lightly toasted burger bun by spreading on some mayonnaise and laying down some caramelized onions and pickles on the *bottom* bun. Place the juicy lucy burger patty over the onions and pickles. Top with the other bun. Allow to cool slightly before chomping down or else… cheese burn. Not good. Serve with fries and SMASH.

2023.03.23 17:45 Risenfromthedust [W] Dell PDJCN KVM Console rails
Story is I bought a used kvm console off eBay for $80. The listing said rails included. Then when it arrives there no mounting rails. I message the seller and his explanation is “Oh I meant the ones on the side of the kvm console. That’s all”. He only wants to give me a partial refund and 3/4 of the cost of this thing was shipping so it’s not even worth shipping it back for a return. I need help finding some rails to allow me to mount this thing in my rack and be able to actually use it. I definitely cannot/will not pay Dell $160 for “replacement” rails. Hoping someone has some sitting around that I can just pay shipping for and maybe throw a few bucks for helping me out and their trouble storing them. Also, I’m in 37090 so if anyone is local and I don’t have to worry about shipping, I could instead throw a few more $ your way.

2023.03.23 17:19 clarksworth Kitchen spacer panels - can they be trimmed?
2023.03.23 17:07 90blacktsiawd Here's my daily driven 540 whp sti
This is my first foray into the Subaru world though not my first trip into the turbo 4 cyl awd world as my name might hint at. I've built a few dsm's, a z32 tt 300zx, svt cobra and s13 in the past. I always liked wrx's but knew myself well enough to know anything short of a STI wouldn't keep me happy for long. I picked up my current car off ebay right before covid shut everything down. 107k miles, intake, cat back, AP3 installed, supposedly low compression in 1 cylinder, $8k plus shipping from the west coast. The car showed up maybe a week before the initial covid shut downs took place. First start had smoke billowing out of the exhaust and what sounded like popcorn popping under the hood. I'm not completely inept when it comes to cars but i knew doing the motor was going to be more than i was prepared to tackle. Stopped at a few places while waiting for the car to arrive and was shocked at the costs i was being given to prep something to break 400 whp after a turbo upgrade down the road.
I ended up settling on a local place called Area1320 in Nazareth PA to do the work. They're the closest Subaru specialty shop and they're an IAG certified installer. I started collecting parts as i found deals on them as my date to go in for the build was still several months off. Unfortunately due to all the shut downs shipping delays and places just plain being out of stock meant what was supposed to be a 2-3 month long build turned into a 2 year build. Over this time as i kept doing research and finding deals on more parts the build just kept growing. It was always intend to be a full street car. Something responsive that is a joy to take on my favorite back roads and to the autocross when they come to town.
When they finally cracked into my motor it was pretty clear that there were more problems besides 1 cylinder with low compression. 1 piston had a cracked ring land. Another has the edge of the piston crown literally explode. Metal chunks damaged 1 head beyond repair, turbo was smoked and tons of oil in the tmic.
There isn't an area of the car that hasn't been touched at this point. To the best of my knowledge this list of parts below is accurate.

2023.03.23 16:39 Little_Endure Ready to buy my first e-bike: I cannot find the perfect match...
...that's not quite true, I've found it: The Kinesis Range Flat Bar Ride 50. But they do not ship outside the UK - which I was told after I placed the order on their website. I was looking into going through a stockist and traveling to the UK myself to bring home, but they're unwilling to help even if I offer to pay for their service unless they can order it themselves - which they can't because it's sold out.
After two weeks of sorting out logistics, I'm giving up.
It was perfect on paper and I'm feeling very insecure settling on another option, maybe you could help me?
Requirements: - Lightweight (ideally <15 kg) - Fazua motor: I need some help going up the hills here, but prefer as little drag as possible - 50 % trails (smooth gravel to single tracks with roots), 50 % road, I can replace the tires if needed - Removable motor would be great because I do want to use it as a normal bike too to get in better shape - Options to add mudguard, rack, and bags (if possible on the front fork too...) - Suspension not necessary - Flat bar or drop bar, I'll work with both - Max. around 5000 Euros - I'm 160 cm/ 79 cm inner leg length, so at last an option in size S
I'm grateful for any suggestions! Commuting by car is stressful, especially now with the beautiful weather and I really want to get out more for my depression and combine it with errands and commuting.
Thank you for any advice or recommendation!!
Have a lovely day!

2023.03.23 16:37 timg528 35amp breaker for 8awg?
Hi folks,
Got a question and some context about upsizing a breaker that feeds a wall over over 8 awg wire.
Context: Our house was built in 2005-2006 with a similar year 30amp wall-microwave/oven combo, by a mass production builder ( if that makes a difference ). The oven's starting to go, so I'm looking to replace it. The ovens that I like specify 40amp, but our current breaker for the oven unit is 35 amp. The wire is NM 8/3, and the oven unit is the only thing it serves.
We've got 400 amp service with two panels and the individual breakers are fairly well balanced between them and space/amperage in both panels available. Location is in the USA, and our county is typically 1-2 iterations behind the latest NEC.
Question(s): Is there some reason I'm not aware of for limiting the current to 35amp instead of 40amp? Google has failed me so far, and I frankly wouldn't be surprised if the builder used whatever they had in spares or gotten a deal on.
Thanks!

2023.03.23 16:01 purplegreendave HF Must Haves/Real Quality Tools
Going to HF for the first time on Sunday. I live in Canada so I'm not too fussed about warranty. Lots of recommendations out there along the lines of "when it breaks just bring it in for a new one" but that doesn't really apply to me.
I'm an apprentice Heavy Duty (on paper) Mechanic still filling out my box, but we work on everything from lawnmowers to graders, ATVs to gensets.
I need a new box and side locker to replace the hand me down I got for free when I started, but unless they're blowing out the 44 or 56s I'll probably wait for the Series 3 and make a specific trip across the border for it.
Right now I've got my eye on the newer Braun 500 lumen light, 8" Icon Slip Joints and some cheap odds and ends like folding hex keys and pliers racks.
I haven't got myself any diagnostic kits, compression tester gauges etc but I don't know if the Maddox ones are any good (they're certainly cheap).
Is there anything else at HF that you really think is worth having, that's crazy good value or is a near quality knock off?

Chapter 4: On the road again
[First] [previous] [Next] ( link )
It was actually sorta jarring in a sense. Joshua
knew there was an alien invasion happening, but out here in the farmlands things were…. Well, peaceful? The entire state…. Country? World. The whole world was under attack, but out here in the fields and the farms, one wouldn't really be able to tell. Well that wasn’t entirely true. The sight of one of the invaders flying overhead, in what might more closely resemble a brick or a particularly fat tuning fork, worked to break that illusion of normalcy.
Though I-75 was pretty calm all things considered, if not sparsely occupied by other drivers. Even after a quick stop at a Marathon gas station he wondered if he was capable of making good time there. From the radio chatter from before, the aliens seemed far more interested in occupation rather than outright genocide…. Right?
It hadn't stopped the general panic that seemed to hang in the air. The shelves in most outlets, be they grocery store or gas station, were cleared out. He was lucky he had even gotten a half a tank of gas from the pumps. Already they were rationing it. Apparently no drivers wanted to deliver things across a war zone, who would have thought? It's one thing after all to stay cooped up in your homes or local community, it's another to deliver a tanker across the country.
Up to this point, it had been largely quiet. He had simply been driving in silence, for the past hour. He had already been by a trailer park that seemed to have been bustling with people, several of the RVs pulling out of the park and driving out towards the dirt roads. Passing by an airport, he flinched as he saw what looked like several of those alien craft circling around it, before going in to land on the tarmacs.
Black and purple figures piling out of the back hatches & moving towards the interchanges of the interstate.
'Holy shit why are they so tall?' The ongoing road construction had been left unfinished on much of the interstate, torn up roads and traffic cones left scattered about and even the backhoes and cement mixers. Those caused a bit of a detour before getting back on track. It wasn't until Perry parkway that he had seen
real carnage. A jet had crashed or more accurately had been shot down here. The mangled wreckage of what looked to be half of an Ac-130. It had carved a path on the west side of the interstate, having cut through what looked like a hotel, and the crash wreckage had dragged all the way to a dealership. There were no signs of fire, but the metal scrap littered the nearby flats and one of the wings embedded in the ground near a billboard. He had to swerve several times just to avoid getting a tire blown out or bottoming out on his truck.
Once again he passed by more RVs and he wondered just how many there actually were out here? '
Maybe people were packing up to go hide in the forests?' Though they all drove in the opposite direction. He was almost at the '156' & just up ahead he could see why.
"Oh. Fuck me, it's a checkpoint."
The lanes were barricaded up ahead, each lane was closed off by the presence of those purple aliens. Each seemed to stand somewhere in the range of seven or more feet tall. They were built like bodybuilders with all those muscles. Their armor they wore looked more like skin tight swimwear with armor plates strapped on top. For one reason or another the black armor looked curvy and form fitting. That didn't really make sense to him.
The guns reminded him of those German bullpups with the top loading magazines. They had with them what looked to be a pair of apcs. Their huge wheels would’ve not looked out of place on a tractor, while the body of the vehicle was roughly in the shape of a brick, which seemed to be a pattern. The cannons on top seemed to swivel on pivots & began tracking Joshua's truck. He flinched and tensed up for a moment, anticipating the blast, but when they hadn't fired he let out a shaky breath.
One began to raise a hand and do some sort of hand motion towards the other aliens and they all turned and bared their guns towards him. Not really aiming, but rather pulling them forward. None of them racked a round or pulled any bolt actions, so maybe they were automatic? Oh right, the aliens. He managed to slam on his brakes, coming to a stop maybe fifty feet away from the front-most alien.
This one had even raised their gun to level it right towards him. With a raised hand, the alien began to shout towards him in some sort of broken language that almost sounded to have a German accent. It was rather impressive how loud they were, given the sound of the truck's engine still rumbling.
["Halt!"] It… she? Wait, she? Jeez those were big.
Uhh right. So it began walking towards his truck with another two beginning to flank on either side of his vehicle.
'Focus. Treat it like a traffic stop. Look straight ahead and don't do anything stupid.' One stood in front of the truck, pointing its weapon through the windshield at him.
["Hey there cutie. This is a vehicle inspection. Wondering where you're traveling from? "] The first one marched to the driver's side window. It spoke in more of that German accented pig-latin or whatever it may have been. Joshua was more caught up on the fact that the one in front still had the gun trained on him with a look of worry. Why would they be worried?
He was the one about to be shot!
["Hey I'm gonna need to inspect ya. Mind opening up for me?"] The alien repeated itself firmly, her hand resting on the pistol that hovered at her hip. He slowly began to lower the driver's side window, the glass giving a loud squeak as the window came down all the way. He opened his mouth to speak but he realized he had no idea what to say, leaving him with an awkward pause and open mouth. Would they even speak English? Or even understand it?
'Speak up, before you swallow a fly.' "I uhh….I don't understand you."
["Oh shit, I guess they don't speak trade-shil."] ["Inb're did you bring the pad with the translator?"] ["Yeah, but its battery died like. An hour ago. There's nothing to do & I wanted to watch a movie."] ["Were in the middle of a liberation and you're watching movies? Are you serious?"] ["What? I was bored! Besides now we've got a new thing to keep us entertained. Isn't that right, stiff?"] The alien responded in something incomprehensible, prompting the third alien standing by to speak up. The aliens had a short back and forth between one another, with each passing moment causing his anxiety to ratchet up. He fidgeted in his seat a bit, tightening his grip on the steering wheel.
'Stay cool, don't panic. They don't know you're in the military.' When the alien who was still aiming her rifle at his front windshield spoke up, the one standing at his driver's side window had apparently decided to get back to it.
["Just do the inspection and search, will ya Inb're?"] ["Fiiine. At least I get to search 'em. Alright, local. Hop on out."] They spoke again in what could be assumed to be in an authoritative tone. Stepping forward, the alien looked directly at him with their black eyes that had a single ring of gold in each of them. The alien waited for a moment, and somewhat leaned itself forward, Joshua found himself looking away & trying to avoid eye contact… or at least avoid looking at their chest. Grasping the truck's driver side handle the alien tried the door handle, the lock preventing it from being opened. Joshua had a flash of panic and flinched, nearly slamming on the gas to drive forward but cooler heads prevailed.
["Turn it off. And Hop. Out."] Though he couldn't understand what they were saying, they did a sort of pantomiming motion of taking their two fingers and pinching them together, wrist pointed inwards at an angle and then twisted their fingers over the imaginary item. They repeated themselves yet again as it finally clicked for him. Turning off his engine, swearing under his breath.
The alien tried the handle again, as he slowly reached over and undid the doors lock as well as his belt. The alien opened the door, soon after taking a wide step back, speaking authoritatively at him. Stepping out, the alien pushed him towards the hood of his truck. Joshua putting his hands on the hood. '
So this is how I’ll die.' ["Alright I'm so over the nervous foreplay crap. On the hood and spread 'em."] It…. She started patting him down across his pockets, her wide palms smacking across him and taking out his leather wallet, which was empty, his smart phone, which wasn't charged, and some gum that he had left over. At this point he was simply glad he hadn't had a gun on him. Then again, from the reports, it wouldn't have made a difference. Nothing short of a Barrett or a twelve gauge could do anything to one of them when they were armored. Though knives apparently worked all the same. That was curious in and of itself all things considered.
["Not bad…"] His thoughts were brought back to the moment as she had continued to pat him down. A large hand gilded between his legs and he got 'cup-checked', as what should have been a pat down felt more like a bitchslap to his jewels. Clenching his jaw, a small grunt of pain escaped under his breath, though he kept his composure. It felt like a particularly invasive search at an airport more than anything. He was admittedly a bit confused as her hands began patting over and gliding across the underside of his arms and lingered far too long for comfort, when it came across his chest. He obviously didn't have a holster, but he didn't say anything. Though her hands eventually traveled down to his back and the hem of his pants. He tried to hold his cool as she 'goosed' him, but
'holy shit that hurt'. The way she grabbed at his ass, it had felt like an aggressive booster shot and he couldn't stop himself from a pained shout.
"AHH! Mother fucker!"
His back arched and he brought his hand to his rear, turning to look over his shoulder, only to find a black-gloved hand on his shoulder and turning him roughly back to the truck's hood with a dull smack against his back, the overly strong hand feeling like a vice grip on his collarbone and left a dull pain lingering behind. Okay he was gonna have two bruises.
["Did I tell you, you could move? Stay!"] ["Private Inb're! This is a inspection, not a chance for you to smack up the locals!"] ["Oh he's being overly dramatic! I barely touched him!"] ["I'm not gonna have molestation or boy-bashing levied against this pod! Check yourself before I do it for you!"] ["Alright alright! No need to get your tits in a pinch, fucking louse…."] ["What was that!?"] ["I said I'm checking the trunk now!"] He heard the other alien women shout something back and forth after that, with increasing volume, but he was quickly reminded that they were armed and he didn't wanna be fucking shot.
'Aww shit this hurts. This is a deep pain.' Staring at the ground & avoiding eye contact with the aliens, his fingers flat across the hood of the truck, the stinging in his shoulder had started to suddenly get more intense.
The feeling of needles spreading over the area, quickly began to replace the dull pain. Maybe he should have drank more milk up to this point?
'Oh cool, it gets worse.' He thought to himself.
["Now let's see what you're hiding…"] She had left him standing at the truck's front as she and the other one had moved over to the truck bed itself, saying something unintelligible. In the back he knew he had the food crates, some tool boxes and quite a bit of cable lengths and plug sockets. Plus a bunch of miscellaneous bits for either fixing the radios or tools for line repair. Plus tape. Loooots of tape. He didn't have any of the guns…. Right? He was sure the Major & crew took all those. Joshua wasn't even a proper rifleman & hadn't shot a gun since basic.
He burned his ID along with the papers, apparently the aliens were looking out for the military up to this point. Soldiers that got captured were dragged off to camps and most were being held there. The stand down order came through after the second day, but that largely hadn't been received by most groups or was outright being ignored. Most people didn't
really care what Washington had to say in that regard but.
The Major had decided not to tell those on the radio in the area about it. Hold out as long as possible, instead of just turning themselves in. The Major had wanted to contact the local militias in the area, but they didn't really have the same equipment as them. Not everyone was gonna have a SINCGAR after all.
Then they had pulled out the duffle bags from the back seat. '
Shit.' They began to open one and go through it, mostly clothes that hadn't been washed in the past week, though he had clean boxers on at least. They did find his swiss army knife, but had quickly dismissed it. The duffle bag with the ham radios however, had caught their attention.
["What do we have here? Holding out on me you little stiff?"] 'He didn't have the 12-volts in, right?' The handsy alien tried a few of the dials and switches, toggling them haphazardly. This immediately earned a shouting fit from the third woman. He noticed now that she had what looked like a yellow or tan trim along her armor. That wouldn't be gold, right? The back and forth between them seemed to end abruptly, as they zipped up his duffle bags and tossed them in the backseat.
["Don't mess with that! What if it turned out to be a bomb?! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!"] ["Relax! It's just some… scrap electronics. Maybe a radio or something. It's busted anyways. Nothing's even turning on, on it."] ["Alright you're done. Go stand by the transports."] ["Aww what common I was just-"] ["I said over to the transport!"] Coming back over, the alien that had been shouting at the grabby-one up until now, seemed to look at Joshua with a bit of an odd look. She looked him over, for several moments. He was skinny. He did well with cardio but honestly he wasn't nearly as fit as he should have been. His skin was a bit pasty, being down in a bunker for two weeks, leaning over a radio would do that to you.
His hands were covered in multiple electrical burns with poorly done bandaging. Dirty nails, bruises and one missing fingernail that had sorta gotten caught on a piece of metal and nearly broken in half. Then the alien met his eyes through her visor and her face soured. As he blinked he realized his eyes had been watering, with a couple tears running down his cheek, from the pain in his shoulder. Great. He was gonna die looking like he was crying like a little bitch. Soldier of the month people.
Then she started stomping past him. The one who had been standing ahead of his truck the entire time, no longer had her rifle trained on Joshua. They were in a more lax position, though eyes still locked on him. Goldie and her apparently had a few words for each other before Goldie sent her off towards the apcs at a jog. When they returned, they had with them a small white bottle. They tossed it to Goldie who caught it.
["Here just… Just lemme see your hands. This stuff will help with the cuts & bruising. It won't hurt, I promise."] They spoke to Joshua yet again, in a language he did not know. She held her hand out towards his own and began to shake the white bottle. Joshua took a step away from her at this point, he didn't know what that was and wasn't eager to find out. When she took another step towards him to make a grab, he flinched, which she seemed to catch onto as she stopped reaching for him with an almost defeated look and she herself took a step back.
"Soooo everything's in order, right? Can I go now?"
Reaching for his stuff on the hood of the truck, he began to slowly pick it up and move back to the driver's seat. Grabby had already made her way to the other side of the roadblock and had looked as though they were almost moping, leaned against the side of the apc.
Joshua climbed into the driver's seat with caution, trying to keep his eyes off of Goldie or the other two. Sitting down, he cursed the worn out seat and his bruised glute. Closing the door sent another sharp pain running up his shoulder, that made him wonder if a nerve had gotten pinched or if it was just muscle bruising from his time being little more than a desk jockey. When they hadn't stopped him he had turned on his engine. The two apcs up ahead were still trained on him, though Goldie waved a hand for him to pull forward. At least it seemed that way. As he did, the two apcs parted the way to the highway and he simply drove on forward towards Atlanta.
"Okay…. As soon as I get off the highway, stick to the back roads…. Fuck I could use some painkillers."
…
…
…
Everything about this deployment sucked. Oh sure, it was a new planet full of men. Humans.
Nearly four billion. Half of the entire population, of what were essentially pink Shil'vati, minus the tusks which could be a bonus depending on how you looked at it. She and her new pod were excited about it. Drop down, kick the locals' cunts in & then bask in the admiration of freeing the world's populace from the risk of a second roach situation.
The planet's poor excuses for governments had basically entirely surrendered after the second day. That should have been it, but for some reason it wasn't.
Sta'Ras found herself in the ass end of the forest. Or rather atop of a bridge in the ass end of a forest, leading a bunch of brand new recruits on a
checkpoint of all things. She didn't see why. It may have been one of the main roads, but almost no one was even on it. The few who
were seemed to turn right around the moment they spotted them anyways.
Many were willing to go as far as to drive off the roads to cut across to the other direction. So with that being said, they were essentially stuck tweaking their tits while waiting for rotation. "This is such turox-shit…." Came from the grumbling and handsy marine.
Of course the
one time a male comes through without another woman with him, that fucking
YOKEL has to go and ruin it. Inb're, that brotherfucker had woman-handled a young man and actually hurt him. She was half tempted to call her out as a boy-basher but kept herself from dropping that accusation just yet.
It was a basic traffic stop. A basic search for weapons to keep them outta the regional capital that had apparently still been a warzone up until very recently. But seriously? They had stopped some lithe man that looked properly masculine than any of the feminine men she had seen around here. He looked gaunt. Like he hadn't even been eating properly. She assumed he had to have been hiding out in the boonies here. Covered in facial scars and hands that looked burnt and gouged. She had no idea what he had gone through out there on his own.
"Shut it Inb're. I don't wanna hear it after that little fucking stunt."
"Oh come on! I barely touched him! He was obviously exaggerating & being dramatic!"
"I said shut it! Didn't your father ever teach you not to put your hands on a man? He was fucking crying! Pretty big indicator right there!"
"Men cry all the time! It's what they
do!"
Inb're thought this was a bunch of crap. Sure she copped a feel when she was searching him, but so what? Like they wouldn't have done the same. A guy all alone out on the road?
Obviously he had been out looking for attention. He hadn't turned the other direction like every other car out here. Besides, what with the white stretched out shirt & those sagging pants he was wearing? He was obviously asking for it!
He hadn't even put up a fight until the pinch. Then he decides to get a bit uppity & she had quickly put him back in his place. Besides the crying was probably just Edexi-tears. Fake, on demand & just doing it for attention.
"The men are all over emotional anyways. Give it a couple weeks, they'll calm down. Besides, if
someone had remembered to charge their omnis' maybe we could have actually talked to him."
Sta'Ras wanted to beat the shit out of her at this point. The way he looked made her mind do all sorts of knee jerk reactions. His hands looked like they were dipped in acid or maybe just stomped on repeatedly. His arms were covered in scrapes, cuts and bruises. He had tiny scars across his face and his eyes looked sunken. Worse yet when she brought the bruise cream and antiseptic, he flinched away from her. That had hit a string in her heart.
'Maybe he was abused before?' Periphery worlders barely knew how to behave properly on a good day. Now they had to drag all these fresh boots around and make sure they didn't do anything overly stupid.
'Fuck i could go for a blue grain' She thought to herself. If it wasn't for the locals taking pot shots at them every other day, maybe they could all actually relax, instead of needing to stay in full kit, helmet and all. Hard to get a guy's attention when they won't even go near you. Even harder if they get word that they're gonna get groped when they do.
"Yeah because feeling him up and being rough, is really gonna get the hermits to wanna talk to you. Now shut up and stay out of the way on the next stop."
Inb're huffed, gritting her teeth. She stomped away into the back of the apc, kicking a chunk of concrete away.
This whole debacle was definitely going into the report. Even if it was likely going to get ignored, & brushed off as 'girls being girls'. How inthe deep was she gonna meet a guy if the yokels were gonna drive them all away?
…
…

End of chapter.
Author's note:
Been sparse with my posting as of late. Between me binge reading other stories for inspiration and general day to day work, I either tend to write in my free time or when i get bored. That and I tend to want at least a few eyes to glance over my work for proof reading and such. Buuuut considering I've seen others confidently post their works unabated I probably should just do the same. In either case, I will try to pump out a chapter of this story at least once every other week depending on my mood. Anxious writing is ironic.

2023.03.23 14:44 FarFix9886 Can I use my existing CL200 120V meter for a heavy-up?
I live in a small townhouse and need a new service panel in order to accommodate breakers for a new 30A induction cooktop and a 30A oven. Previously we had a 40A electric range. The panel is unquestionably too small. The main breaker is two switches combined together, each marked 50A.
My electrician is saying that he can't do the work until the supply chain opens up and he can get his hands on a new 200A meter. He says that PEPCO/the law requires a 200A meter.
My current meter has three lines between it and the panel: 2 black and 1 white. The conduit is about 1.5" in diameter.
The meter is a Landis+Gyr FOCUS AXR-SD with the following markings:
- Form 12S
- CL200 <-----
- 120V <-----
- 3W 60Hz TA=30 Kh14.4
Is my current meter a 200A meter? Does it need replacing?

2023.03.23 13:31 shaman79 What to try to silence Multiplus II 3000?
So I just got 3 phase system made of 3 Multiplus II 3000 inverters. The company doing the instalation never mentioned the noise those things are making. We have it in the house directly and the hum is audible even 10m away at night, not speaking about the fans that are audible even during the normal day. This is extremely annoying...my wife is angry at me that I bought such expensive source of noise, cat started to live outside and I have headaches from looking for some solution :)
I went through the net and here are the options I found:
- FW update - already done, I am on 502 and the humming is still there
- Check the manufacturing SN - Mine is starting 2229 so it already should have the fan fix
- Placing the inverters on some rubber mats - they are in rack, seems to be solidly mounted so it would probably not help
- Silencing the fans - There are some replacement options but it would break the warranty.
Right now the humming noise is most annoying as it is always there, day and night. My neighbour has Solax and it is ultra silent, practically inaudible. It is hard for me to believe that more expensive device is actually worse in terms of noise.
So, is there anything you recommend to try?

I've replaced both water inlet vavles and new OEM filter, what else could cause water to freeze in the inlet tube of the ice maker (the part where it comes in from the back of the fridge into the ice maker)? I keep having to take it out and thaw it because it's stopping water from flowing into the ice maker.
